Sandra Hughes Humbert passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 17, 2018, at the age of 73. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her life. Sandra was born on September 27, 1945, in New Orleans, LA. Daughter of the late Eldridge P. Hughes Sr. (Bitsey) and Eugenia S. Hughes (Genie). She was the beloved wife of Andrew Humbert, who was also her caregiver for the past 20 years. She was the compassionate loving mother of Dawn T. Riess (Buddy), Melissa T. St. Romain (Rob), and Richard J. Torres (Nicole). The proudest “Maw-Maw Sandy” of Richard B. Torres and Reed Torres and the proudest “Mi-Mi” of Gabrielle St. Romain. Sister of Butch Hughes (Patsy), V. L. Hughes (Arleen) and Nyles Hughes (Rhonda). Sandra is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends. She was so well loved and affectingly known for her generous heart, happy spirit and fun-loving attitude. She was an avid reader and a complete fashionista when it came to her many hats, handbags and her unique hair styles! She enjoyed and took great pride in maintaining all of her beautiful house plants. She made an impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. No one ever felt like a stranger when in her company. She will forever be remembered as being the strongest, most courageous loving Mom, Wife and friend to all. A gathering of friends and family was held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette. A Celebration of Life followed in her honor. In lieu of flowers, (in true Sandy fashion), we ask that you pay it forward in an act of kindness.
