Joycelyn Hill Salande passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late James Jack Salande Sr. for 51 years. Loving mother of James Jack Salande Jr. (Theresa), Brenda Salande Fields and Joseph Wayne Salande (Laurie). Daughter of the late Wilford V. Hill and Mildred Madeline Blohm Hill. Sister of Arden Hill, Wilford Hill and Velda H. Sylvia and the late Marvell, Elaine and Titus Hill. Proud grandmother of Jennifer Doran (Dave), Stephen Frechou (Sherry), Christopher Frechou, Kristen Brack (Clifford), Joseph D. Salande (Ashley), Jessica Salande Goelz, Belinda Salande, James Salande, Linda Salande (Frank) and Kevin Salande. Loving Godmother of Roxanne Hill Johnson. Also survived and fondly remembered by 15 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joycelyn was born on January 15, 1935 in New Orleans, LA and was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. She was a beautician and owned her own beauty shop in earlier years. She was former secretary for AARP Chalmette and volunteered for many years playing music and ministering to the homeless at the Ozanam Inn. She was very adventurous and being active, she even won a weightlifting competition in the over 50 category. She had a passion for traveling, camping and hiking in the mountains. Joycelyn loved music, played guitar and sang in several church choirs. Relatives and friends attended a visitation and funeral mass held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, February 22, 2019. She was laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, St. Bernard, LA.
