Albert Louis Meliet passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the age of 94. Son of the late Mary Mabel Ryan and Albert Louis Meliet Sr. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years Dolores “Dee” Legendre Meliet. e is survived by his loving children, son Albert Meliet Jr. and daughters Ann Gebbia and Susan Quates (Robert), grandchildren Gina Hontiveros (Sal), Chad Quates (Sarah), Christy Crovetto (Matthew), and 9 great-grandchildren Cade and Amelia Hontiveros, Lucy and Oscar Quates, Rowan, Ryann and Elliot Crovetto, Harper and Hayley Quates. Mr. Meliet was a native of New Orleans, a resident of St. Bernard Parish for 50 years and a resident of Metairie for the last 10 years. He was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Chalmette, where he was a fair worker, lector and a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medal. He was also a former member of the AARP Pakenham Chapter 3926. Mr. Meliet was a 1938 graduate of Fortier High School in New Orleans. A U.S. naval veteran of WWII in the Pacific, serving on the USS Auriga, USS John Land and USS Harwood. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Stars, the Philippine Campaign / Liberation Medal with 2 Stars and the Navy Good Conduct Medal, among others. He worked for the United Fruit Company for 18 years, and then served as the Superintendent of Traffic and Warehousing at United China and Class Corporation until his retirement. His love, loyalty and devotion to his family knew no bounds. He was a man of exemplary character whose goodness will surely reach forward into generations to come. A man of certain faith, he resides with his beloved wife Delores in the arms of their savior, Jesus Christ. Relatives and friends of the family attended the Funeral Mass at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 500 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA, on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 1 p.m. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
