George Hilton, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the age of 98. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith Godfrey Hilton. Loving father of Darlene Babineaux (Johnnie) and George Ray Hilton, III (Daphne). Grandfather of Tanya Dahmer (Michael), Tricia Scheuermann (Mark), Tarah Cordes (George), Staci Hilton, and Shellie Monk (Darrall). He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. George was a proud WWII Army Veteran and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. A skilled woodworker, he took great pleasure and pride in making canes, furniture and toys for his friends and family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, a true friend to everyone, and will be forever missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend a sincere debt of gratitude to the dedicated and caring staff of Greenbriar Community Care Center for their loving care and dedication to “Georgie.” Relatives and friends are invited to attend a gathering to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Mass will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, in New Orleans, with military honors.
