Elder Thurman Fitzgerald King, Sr., Pastor of Westwego Church of God in Christ (COGIC), entered triumphant rest on Sunday, January 10, 2021. He was a native of Violet, Louisiana. His parents, Joe Louis King and Audrey Watkins King, and a sister, JoAnn, preceded him in death. Thurman taught Special Ed and coached football for many years at P.G.T. Beauregard Middle School in St. Bernard Parish and L.W. Higgins High School in Jefferson Parish, where he also directed the choir. After serving as an educator, Pastor King, a veteran of the Air National Guard, worked at Conoco Phillips in Belle Chasse and the Shell Oil Company in Port Allen. Viewing at Westwego COGIC, 130 Louisiana Street, Westwego, LA 70094, on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 11 a.m. -12 p.m.; due to COVID-19 restrictions his service at 12 p.m. noon conducted by Superintendent Fred M. Beauford at Westwego COGIC, will be private. Interment at Restlawn Park Cemetery in Avondale. Survivors include his children, Ivana, Thurman, Jr., Elijah, and Caleb, two grandchildren, Zoe and Nalej, one brother Reginald, one niece LaToya, one nephew Christopher, one great nephew, Avery, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
