Manuel Montelongo Jr.

Manuel Montelongo Jr., a Veteran of the U.S. Navy who proudly served his country, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Henrietta Freire Montelongo. Loving father of Manuel “Monty” Montelongo III (Lana), Henry Montelongo (Faith) and Angel Montelongo (Tammy). Son of the late Manuel Montelongo Sr. and Martha Hayes Montelongo. Brother of (twin) Emanuel “Chubby” Montelongo (Sally), Eddie Montelongo (the late Myra), Richard Montelongo (Margie), Jacinta “Tinta” M. Alfonso (Stanley) and the late Irene April, Juan Montelongo, Francisco Montelongo, Bernice Peterson, Norma Kessling Bertran (Jack), Robert Peterson (Loyce) and Raymond Sharp (Josie). Proud grandfather of Monica Montelongo Oggs (Kyle Walker), Natalie Nunez (Benny), Monty Montelongo (Cheri), Nina Sullivan Ducre, and Laurie Burfield. Great-grandfather of Rayna Oggs, Ashton Oggs, Mariska Oggs, Benny Nunez, Brady Nunez, Noah Nunez, Madison Nunez, Monty Montelongo Jr., Amelia Montelongo, Alexis Sullivan, Darius Sanchez, Alyssa Victoriana and Emily Victoriana. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Manuel was born in New Orleans, LA, and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where he enjoyed a long career in the oil and gas industry. He found pleasure in the details of everyday life and cared deeply for those around him. Manuel will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family and his country, his caring and loving spirit, his laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. He was a wonderful example of what it means to care for others and will be deeply missed by us all. Relatives and friends attended a visitation followed by a Funeral Mass in Manuel’s memory at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet, LA on Thursday, February 3, 2022.
