It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas J. O’Hare, Jr., known as Tommy to family and friends, at the age of 94. He was born in New Orleans February 3, 1923 and passed away peacefully of age related causes February 2, 2017 on the eve of his birthday. He was the eldest son of the late Thomas (Tom) J. O’Hare, Sr. and Elizabeth Bandi O’Hare. He is survived by Brothers J. Michael O’Hare and James O’Hare and their spouses, respectively, Carolyn O’Hare and Carole O’Hare. He is also survived by son Thomas J. (Tim) O’Hare, III and Tim’s wife Sheila O’Hare who greatly assisted Tommy during his later years. He will further be remembered and missed by the extended families O’Hare and Bandi. Tommy was a graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans and later received a degree in mechanical engineering from Tulane University. He served in the Navy during WWII on a small ship that survived harrowing years in the South Pacific. Tommy is known for his lengthy career at the Kaiser Aluminum plant in Chalmette and for his avid participation in weightlifting and bodybuilding. He was twice winner of the Mr. New Orleans bodybuilding contest and received mention at the Mr. America Contest as a young amateur. He was for many years a member of the New Orleans Athletic Club and figures into the club’s history. After losing his Chalmette home to Hurricane Katrina, Tommy lived in Slidell during his last seventeen months at the Louisiana Veterans Home in Jackson, LA. A family service is planned.
