Gloria Catherine DeValcourt Marcotte

Gloria Catherine DeValcourt Marcotte passed away on April 4, 2017 in Encinitas, California at the age of 90. She was born in New Orleans, daughter of John and Grace Guidry DeValcourt, and lived most of her life in New Orleans, Jefferson & St. Bernard Parishes. She moved to California due to her health in 2011 and was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Steven S. Marcotte. She is survived by four children and their spouses: Michael and Mary Marcotte of Houston, Texas; Patrick and Maria Pilar Marcotte of Lake Bluff, Illinois; Pamela and Michael Elliott of Encinitas, California; John Marcotte and Vicki Freedman of West Bloomfield, Michigan. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Matthew Marcotte of Dallas,Texas and Margaret Wagman (Ross) of Manchester, England; Caroline (David) and Angela Marcotte of Illinois; Adam and Noah Marcotte of Michigan; and two greatgrandchildren: Linus and Arlo Wagman. Mrs. Marcotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans, and a retired elementary school teacher and a former medical technologist. She was for many years an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and served as regent for the Francois deLery and New Orleans Chapters. She was also past-president of the District IV LSDAR Regents’ Council, and received the NSDAR Conservation Medal and the LSDAR Classic Rose. Her other community activities included Women for Better Louisiana, St. Bernard Genealogical Society, Queen Mother of the Chapeau Rouge Femmes Fatales Chapter, Red Hat Society, and chairman of the board of the Jefferson Community Center. Her genealogical research led her to membership in the Magna Carta Dames, Society of the Ark and Dove, Descendants of Royal Families Society, and the Founders of Old Mobile. A memorial will be held in the chapel of the Greenwood Cemetery Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Boulevard on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Marcotte requested donations in her name to the Jefferson Council on Aging Nutrition Department or the charity of your choice.
