Father Digal, who retired in 2014, died on July 20, 2016 in the Philippines at the age of 64. Father Digal was born in Tagbilaran, Bohol province in the Philippines on July 21, 1951. His elementary education was at Sevilla Elementary School in Tagbilaran. He also attended Divine Word College and Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary there. He received his philosophy and theology education at San Carlos Major Seminary in Cebu City, Cebu province in the Philippines. Father Digal was ordained a priest on April 10, 1978, in Surigao City, Surigao province in the Philippines, and was incardinated into the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1993. He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Benilde Catholic Church in Metairie, Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church in Marrero, and St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Metairie. His pastorates were at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Kenner, Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Harvey, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chalmette, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in New Orleans, until he retired in 2014. In addition to his pastoral assignments in the archdiocese, Father Digal also served as the Metropolitan Tribunal Defender of the Bond, Coordinator of Filipino Catholic Ministry for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and Dean of the St. Bernard Deanery. Father Digal was living in Surigao City, in the Philippines, at the time of his death. A Memorial Mass for Father Danilo C. Digal, the former pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Parish in Chalmette, will be celebrated Saturday, August 6 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chalmette, LA by Archbishop Gregory Aymond.
