Henry A. Gourgues, Sr., a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Riverbend Nursing Home in Belle Chasse, LA at the age of 100. Beloved husband of the late Rosamond D. Gourgues for 79 years. Loving father of Claire G. Hoffmann (Van) and Henry A. Gourgues, Jr. (Judy). Grandfather of Kathryn H. Noland (Randal), Cynthia H. Boyer (Chris), Steven M. Gourgues (Melissa), Russell M. Gourgues (Dawn), and Brian M. Gourgues (Stefanie). Great grandfather of Brittani N. Keegan (Thomas), Randi Lyn Noland, Christopher Boyer, Lauren, Rebecca, Sarah, Jack, Abigail, Andrew, and Emma Gourgues. Brother of the late Louis, Charles, and William Gourgues. Mr. Gourgues was a Sheet Metal Fabricator/ Leaderman throughout his life, most notably serving during World War II where he worked for Higgins Shipyard in New Orleans, LA. From his youth, Mr. Gourgues was a member of several Dixieland Jazz Bands and was a proud member of The Swingsters in the 1950’s. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
