Joseph Paul DuRapau passed away peacefully on July 7, 2018 to spend eternity with his Heavenly Father at the age of 79. He was born on December 31, 1938 in New Orleans, LA. He is preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Francis Gex, father Joseph DuRapau, stepfather Clayton Thomas Gex, grandparents Maude Pierce and John Francis, Mary and William A. Gex and Mattie Durapau and the love of his life for 26 years Joyce Swindle. Joseph is survived by his sister Gail Gex Freese, nephew Brian L. Freese (Michele), great niece Drew Gloria Freese, his aunt Theresa Gex and many cousins. Joe grew up in Arabi, LA and worked for the Parish of St. Bernard, Rocky & Carlo’s Restaurant and later worked for New Orleans River Boat Casino. Joe was a resident of Houston, TX, until 2017 where he worked at Toyota Center and Minute Maid Center before returning to Louisiana. Joe was very brave when faced with his cancer diagnosis. He was a kind gentle man who always enjoyed talking to and making new friends, spending many hours writing songs and poetry, putting his thoughts on paper, singing and playing his guitar. Joe was extremely proud to have been an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. A special thanks to Roberta, Maria and Melvin of Lakeside Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort and attention shown to Joe, and also to Metairie Healthcare Center for making his short time there very happy. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 4317 Richland Avenue Metairie, LA followed by Mass.
