Vito Montalbano passed away onSeptember 18, 2018 peacefully at homesurrounded by his loving family at age91. He was the adoring husband of thelate Barbara Montalbano. He grew upin Hammond, LA, and was the beloved,eldest son of the late Gioachino andGiuseppina Montalbano. He and his wife moved toSt. Bernard Parish where they lived until HurricaneKatrina when he relocated to Slidell. He was the belovedfather of Barbara (Ronald) Hasney and Vito (Marie)Montalbano, grandfather of Ronald (Dawn) Hasney II,Adrienne (Scott) Landry, Vincent Montalbano, VictoriaMontalbano, and Elizabeth Coleman, and greatgrandfatherof Sarrah and Sophia Hasney, and Aiden,Caitlyn, Ashlyn, and Vivian Landry. He proudly servedin World War II and Korean War as a medic in the Army.He enjoyed his career with the Illinois Central Railroadas a switchman from which he retired. He served as amember of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion,and an usher at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. He will beremembered by his family and friends for his generosityand kindness to everyone, devotion to his family,charismatic personality, carpentry talents, and his lovefor cooking and will be dearly missed. Relatives andfriends attended a visitation and funeral mass held atSt. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St.,Chalmette, LA on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
