Carlos F. Kattengell, also known as “Uncle,” passed away peacefully at St. Margaret’s at Mercy on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the age of 83. He was born in New Orleans, LA, on June 29, 1935. Uncle to Linda Templet (Robert) and Donald Kattengell (Dorothy). Great Nephews Jason Templet (Sarah), Justin Templet, Jared Kattengell (Megan), Mitchell Kattengell and Great-Great Nephew Walter Templet. Preceded in death by parents Anna Floegel Kattengell and Walter Frank Kattengell, Sr., brother Walter Frank Kattengell, Jr. and sister in law Ethel Messmer Kattengell, sisters Linda Ruth Kattengell and Janice Ann Kattengell. Mr. Kattengell resided in St. Bernard Parish from 1972 until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated his home and parish. He survived the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina for one week before being rescued and air lifted to Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, where he suffered and was treated for an aggressive bacterial infection in both legs. After a lengthy recovery and upon discharge, he relocated to Denham Springs until 2010 when he returned to New Orleans. Mr. Kattengell also served in the Louisiana National Guard and was a proud graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School. An avid fan of LSU and all sports, he could recite statistics like no other. Uncle was so very proud of his four great nephews and loved watching them grow up. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the family of St. Margaret’s at Mercy and St. Margaret’s Hospice caregivers and staff members for their years of care and support. Relatives and friends of the family attended the visitation and funeral service at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA. on Friday, November 30, 2018.
