Lawrence Ourlie “Pete” Billiot, age 78, died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Berniece, and his parents Ourlie and Elvira, along with brothers Murphy, Willie, Leroy, and sister Julienne. He leaves behind his loving wife Verna and stepson Johnny Mercier; siblings Margie, Jane, Mary Lee, Josephine, and Robert. Father of Kevin (Kelly), Keith (Kristee), Karen (Chris), and Karla (Lori). Proud grandfather of Colleen, Garrett, Melanie, Tyler, Grace, Caroline, Alec, Justin, Keith, Gabrielle, Kelsey, Cole, Madeline, Kayla, Kylie, and Olivia. Great-grandfather of Leslie Paul. Pete was born in Lockport, LA and moved to St. Bernard as a young boy. He enjoyed football and credited his love of playing the game for being the first in his family to graduate high school. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his service ended, he returned to Saint Bernard and briefly worked at Union Texas Petroleum before landing a job at Tenneco Refinery, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. In his retirement years, he became very active with his American Indian heritage and was elected to represent the United Houma Nation as Tribal Councilman to the parishes of Saint Bernard, Plaquemines, and part of Jefferson. Pete enjoyed traveling on vacation, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He had an engaging personality and made friends easily. He will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and numerous friends. Alfred Long Favalora Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the age of 89. Loving husband of his devoted wife, Esther Leona Billings Favalora for 7l wonderful years. He was the father to one son, Alfred Long Favalora Jr (Sharon), and three daughters, Deborah F. McCrossen (Bill), Paula F. Spencer (Hubert) and Peggy F. Ricard (Steve). Alfred, also known as, Butch, Brother, and Al, was a resident of Slidell, LA for the past 12 years and 77 years in St. Bernard Parish where he was born on April 18, 1928. He is the son of the late Thomas and Annie Favalora and is one of seven brothers, three sisters, three half-brothers, two half-sisters, two step-sisters and one step-brother. He is survived and loved dearly by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Sadly, he was preceded in death by, one grandson and one great grandson. He was known as, Brother, at Hubig Pie Company where he retired from after dedicating 42 years of service as a foreman/baker. He was an active member of St. Bernard Chapter of AARP for many years where he enjoyed socializing with friends and playing bingo. Huey Lee Gardner Sr., passed away at his home on Monday, September 25, 2017 at the age of 76. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Mary Arnold Gardner; his two children Deborah Ann Hollis (Russell) and Huey Lee Gardner Jr. (Mary); five grandchildren Crystal Hollis, Charles Hollis, Sean Hollis, Matthew Gardner and Andrew Gardner; his three siblings Helen Meyer, Bernice Sheffield and Ernie Gardner. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents George Wiley Gardner and Ethel Mae Cook Gardner. Huey was born on September 5, 1941 in New Orleans, LA. He was a resident of St. Bernard Parish since 1964 and has been a resident of Slidell, LA since Hurricane Katrina. Huey was a proud United States Navy Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1966. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2000 after many years of dedicated service. Floyd J. Landry Jr.
Floyd J. Landry Jr. passed away on September 23, 2017 at the age of 64. He was born on December 14, 1952. Floyd graduated from St. Bernard High School as Valedictorian in 1970. After earning a Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1974, he began his career with Shell Oil Company. Over his 33 year career he received various promotions to become the Senior Production Engineer for the Coastal Division of Shell Oil. He retired from Shell in 2007 as the operations manager of the MARS project which was the largest single producing oil field in the Gulf. He enjoyed being a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Floyd will be sadly missed by his wife Deana Dobbs Landry; his two sons, Ryan and Jason Landry; his step-daughters Ashleigh and Carrie; his former wife Kim Jacob; his daughter-inlaw Yessica and intended daughter-in-law Liz; his grandchildren Nashia, Brock, and Mia; his beloved mother and father Floyd and Josie Landry; and his brothers Bobby (Lisa), Kerry (Linda) and Wayne (Riki). Godson of Catherine Perez and the late Minos Landry. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends. Visitation was held at Most Holy Trinity Church, where he was the President of the Church Parish Council, in Pass Christian, Mississippi followed by mass. Floyd was laid to rest at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, where a gathering took place afterwards at Iverson Hall next to St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Patricia Cieutat Lansou
Patricia Cieutat Lansou died peacefully in New Orleans on September 13, 2017 at the age of 88 of natural causes. She was born in New Orleans on June 24, 1929 to Frederick Noel and Anna Moriarity Cieutat of Arabi, La. She was a graduate of Maumus High School and attended Soule College. Patricia worked at the Roosevelt Hotel before her marriage and again 30 years later when it was the Fairmont Hotel. She enjoyed working at the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Center in the Superdome and also at the Louisiana Tourism Welcome Center in the Lower Pontalba Building. She was a member of the Suburban Women’s Club and parishioner of St. Francis Xavier and, most recently, St. Pius X while residing at Vista Shores Assisted Living. Patricia was married to the late Jean G. Lansou, Jr. for 39 years until his death. Patricia and Jean had a marriage populated with many dear friends with whom they shared an active social life. She loved being in the company of family and friends and enjoyed being the hostess as much as the guest. Patricia is the sister of Marilyn Cieutat Gallardo, the late Frederick Noel Cieutat, Jr. and the late Joseph Casimir Cieutat . Survived also by her loving children, Andree Lansou Jacques and favorite son-in-law, Kenneth W. Jacques, Lisa Cieutat Lansou, and Jean G. Lansou, III and daughter-in-law Angelle Menard Lansou. Pat adored her grandchildren, Andrew Jacques, Jean “Gabe” G. Lansou IV, Matthew Lansou and Alexandra “Ally” Lansou and step-grandchildren, Genevieve Jacques, Claire Jacques Sprigg (Ted), Michelle Jacques Brown (Casey), Kenneth Jacques, Jr. (Mira) and Addison Jacobs as well as one great-grandchild, Brynn Lansou and 6 step-great grandchildren, Edward Sprigg, Colette Sprigg, Henry Hobbs Brown, Campbell Brown, William Jacques and Juliette Jacques. Also survived by many loved nieces and nephews, and her former sister-in-law, Joanne Cieutat. Geraldine “Gerry” Frisard Lopinto passed away September 18, 2017 in Baton Rouge at the age of 84. She was born on May 7, 1933 in New Orleans. She was in the restaurant business for over 30 years in St. Bernard Parish and a full time employee of the St. Bernard Sheriff ’s Department. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. And of course, she loved fresh coffee. She is survived by her son Frank A. Lopinto, Jr. and wife Jeanne; daughter Barbara Cocchiara and husband Jay; son Colonel Michael J. Lopinto and wife Anne; daughter Brenda Carbajal and husband Nicky; daughter Tina Schexnaydre and husband Guy; grandchildren Christina Cocchiara Slager and husband Daniel, Catherine Cocchiara, Nicholas Carbajal, Andrew Carbajal, Dylan Schexnaydre, Madeline Schexnaydre, Molly Lopinto, Francesca Lopinto, Dean Schexnaydre and Beau Lopinto; great-grandchildren Charlotte, Teddy and Vera Slager; brother Jules Frisard, Jr. and sister-in-law Clara. Vahid G. Parvazi, the devoted husband of Gay Busalacchi Parvazi, departed this life on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the age of 60. Vahid is survived by his beloved son Armand; father-in-law and dear friend Guy; loving brother and sisters, Hamid (Mahvash), Mahin (Hojat), and Shahla (Mehrdad); his caring nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Irandokht & Abbas Ali Parvazi. In 2008, he dedicated his energies to his passion, the construction and restoration of homes in St. Bernard Parish, and most recently joined his wife in their shared venture with the Old Arabi Marketplace. Deacon Frank William Rhodes, Jr., died on Thursday, September 14, at 8:40 pm at the age of 85. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bernice Bonhagen Rhodes. He served as a Deacon for 22 years for the Archdiocese of New Orleans at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Chalmette, LA. until Hurricane Katrina. He then served as a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Baton Rouge at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Denham Springs, LA, where he retired. Deacon Rhodes was a proud Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Herman L. “Buck” Barkemeyer, of Covington, LA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 26, 2017 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of 49 years to Iris Jones Barkemeyer. He is also survived by his five loving children, Connie Barkemeyer Penton (Jim), Gary J. Barkemeyer (Carol), Peggy Barkemeyer Chanove (Eddie), Dennis L. Barkemeyer (Jean), and Donald “Bucks” Barkemeyer. In addition, he will be missed by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Herman L Barkemeyer, Sr. and Lilly Cosse Barkemeyer and his brother Earl Joseph Barkemeyer. He was a New Orleans native and lived most of his life in Chalmette. Mr. Barkemeyer had a prosperous career in purchasing /sales in commercial steel for over 50 years. Besides his family, his passion was in lawn care and gardening. Marion Recurt Menesses passed away at her home on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the age of 90. Daughter of the late Louis Recurt and Delores Alcorn Recurt Schmidt. Stepdaughter of the late George W. Philip Anthony Manichia passed a w a y peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 62. Philip is preceded in death by his father Salvador Manichia, Jr.; brothers Salvador Manichia, III and John Vincent Manichia. Philip is survived by his mother Mary- Rose Manichia, loving father of Steven Manichia and Marissa Novakowski (Brett); granddaughter Alyssa Manichia and great grandson baby TJ. Philip enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his animals. He also enjoyed watching Dodgers baseball games, and golfing. Kim Lewis Mills passed away in a tragic accident on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 53. She was the cherished fianceé of Serdar Tiglioglu. When not caring for others, Kim loved sitting on the porch of her home, enjoying the views of her garden with a cup of coffee, listening to the birds sing. She truly enjoyed life through her simple pleasures of gardening, spending time sharing stories and laughing with friends and family and, of course, loving her grandchildren. Kim was deeply devoted to her Lord and Savior as a parishioner of Northshore Church in Slidell, LA and was never without her Bible. To know her was to love her, for she gave her heart and soul to all whom she loved. She was a bright light and encouraging person who always had heart-warming words for everyone she met. She was a friend to many and generously helped those less fortunate than her. She was well loved and affectionately known for her good nature, generous heart, amazing smile and served as a wonderful example of what it means to care for others. Alfred Francis Sidney Sander passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the age of 76. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Nezida Bozant Sander. Son of the late Karl and Myrian Sander. Loving father of Lori Sander and Ray Sander. Brother of the late Karl Sander Jr., Ronald Sander, Donald Sander and Cecile Barnes. Proud grandfather of Misty Patingo, Drake Sander and Patrick Sander. Great grandfather of Gavin Greenberg and Rudy Max Flores. Harry M. Reeb, Jr., departed this life peacefully at his residence on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry M., Sr. and Thelma Reeb, and a sister Catherine Marino. Harry is survived by a brother, Michael Reeb and his former spouse, Janice C. Reeb. Mr. Reeb was employed by the Orleans Parish Sewerage and Water Board as a former supervisor of the welding shop and retired after 38 years of service. Barbara LaScala Tassin passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the age of 77. She was the cherished wife of the late Raymond Tassin, and by previous marriage, the late Louis Dembrun Jr. Former wife of Donald St. Germain Sr. Loving mother of Donald St. Germain Jr. (Karen), Karen St. Germain and Mark St. Germain (Kristie). Mother-in-law of the late Deborah St. Germain. Daughter of the late Joseph LaScala and Lorraine Landry Friedlander. Sister of Christopher Friedlander, Lorraine Brown, Donna Gonzales and the late Joseph LaScala Jr. Proud grandmother of Elizabeth Martinez, Holly Marshall, Michelle Mason, Elizabeth Freer, Katherine McKinnon, Ryan McKinnon, Kirstie St. Germain, Erica St. Germain and the late Christopher St. Germain. Great grandmother of Rafe Martinez, Cullen Martinez, Preston Martinez, Michal Kittrell and D’Mond Mason. Barbara was born in New Orleans, LA and was a current resident of Ponchatoula, LA. She enjoyed a long career as a General Manager of the Headquarters Company in New Orleans. She was a member of AARP Chapter 5408 and past member of the Shangri-La Carnival Krewe. She found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for her family and friends. She was well loved and will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, who spoiled her grandchildren and treasured her family. Salvadore Anthony Guercia
Salvadore Anthony Guercia left this Earth on October 9, 2017 to be with Our Lord and Savior at the age of 83. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Tana Stechmann Guercia; his daughter, Tana Guercia DeJean (Raymond); his beloved grandchildren, Dr. Jessica D. Vinterella (Carl), Rashelle D. Greenwood and Raymond J. DeJean Jr. (Amber); his great grandchildren Emma Kate DeJean and Parker Layton; his sister Fortunata G. Scandariato; and his brother Joseph Guercia (Dr. Google). He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Camille Serio Guercia; and his sisters Angelina G. Labue and Anna G. Fazino. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and dear friends. Mr. Guercia proudly served his country as a decorated Sargent, Squad Leader and Sharp Shooter in the U. S. Army National Guard and as a Reserve of the Army from 1949 to 1962. He was affectionately known to his family and friends as “Sarge” and “Tudy.” He was an avid reader and enjoyed time spent gardening and cooking. Mr. Guercia enjoyed a long career and was retired from Woodward Wright, Southland Plumbing and Winn-Dixie. He was well loved and affectionately known for his good nature and generous heart. He will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, the love for his country, his loving spirit, laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. He was our wonderful pillar of courage and strength and will be deeply missed by his family and by all those whose lives he touched.
