Mary Frances Roy passed from this life November 28, 2017, surrounded by family, at the age of 91. She was born on August 12, 1926 in New Orleans, LA to Curtis Westmoland, Sr. and Winnie (Langdon). Mary was a member of First Indian Baptist Church in Moore and loved her church family. She lived a Christian life and was always active in church activities. She also enjoyed making and selling Indian Crafts at Pow-Wows while her husband danced. She met the love of her life, James “Jim” Lee Roy, Jr. in New Orleans at a USO dance during WWII. They married December 4, 1943 and enjoyed 51 blessed years of marriage before Jim”s passing in 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Winnie Westmoland; her brother, Curtis Roy, Jr.; and her husband, James “Jim” Lee Roy, Jr. Mary is survived by her children, James Lee Roy III of New Orleans, Thomas Jay Roy of Moore, Donna Kathleen Roy of Moore, and David Wayne Roy of Edmond; grandchildren, Don, Gaea, Sarah, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Allyson, William, Elizabeth, Chayton, Cheyenne, Evie, and Carson; great-great grandchildren, Samuel and Oliver; and she is also survived by a host of loving extended family and friends. Andrew Ernest Vigueira Sr. passed away at home on the morning of December 22, 2017 at the age of 89. Dorothy Anastasia Ducote Meyers
Dorothy Anastasia Ducote Meyers passed away peacefully on December 28, 2017 at the age of 96. She was born on September 28, 1921 in Mansura, LA to Hanning Ducote and Eudolie Vilmarette Ducote. Dorothy was the oldest of 7 children growing up on the family cotton farm in Mansura during the rough times of the 1920’s and 30’s. She moved to New Orleans in 1939 and began working at Charity Hospital and at the old A&G Cafeteria on the corner of Canal and Broad Streets. She met the eternal love of her life James E. Meyers in 1940 and married in 1942 before he shipped out to WWII in the Pacific. They settled in the 9th Ward in 1945 and together raised seven children until Jim’s death in 1967. After the devastating loss, Dorothy moved the family to Chalmette in 1968 and worked at various jobs supporting the family until eventually retiring in 1986. Dot had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed gardening, country music, Cajun music, cooking, and activities sponsored by the St. Bernard Council on Aging. She was a deeply devoted Mother and Maw Maw and will be missed but never forgotten by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her sons Rodney, Carl, and Roger Meyers and daughter Deanna Romaguera and also her brothers Warren, Vernon, and Richard Ducote and her beloved sister Ileana Evans. She is survived by daughters Beverly Cosse, Darlene Jorns (Patrick) and son James E. Meyers Jr. (Stephanie) and brother Raymond Ducote (Marilyn) and sister Joyce Ducote Crosby. She is also survived by her blessings of 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her loving grandson Austin J. (A.J.) Romaguera and his wife Kitty for their loving attention to Dorothy during the past four years and to the staff at Metairie Health Care Center. Dorothy was a strong willed, resilient, and extremely resourceful woman who as a young child survived the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and bounced back after Hurricanes Betsy and Katrina flooded her homes in the 9th Ward and in Chalmette. Her time on Earth was done. After 50 years, she is now reunited with her husband Jim and all her loved ones anxiously awaiting her arrival in Heaven. He was proud United States Air Force Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1957. He was a former employee of the New Orleans Police Department, St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office and Kaiser Aluminum. He retired from Avondale Shipyard after many years of dedicated service. He was a proud member of the Bayou Lacombe Masonic Lodge # 459 (past master) and Ocean Orleans Masonic Lodge # 144. He was also a member of the South Mississippi Gun Association, Sea Horse Scuba Club and the St. Bernard Pistol and Rifle Range. She was a loving Grandmother, Godmother and a member of St Catherine of Sienna Parish in Old Metairie. She is survived by her children Wendy Helmke-Stone and Robert L. Hoover and her son- in-law Cecil Earl Hoover. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Elsie and Edward Lange. She will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal wife and mother who treasured her family. Barbara loved crafting as well as quilting and belonged to a local quilt guild in Ponchatoula. She was a life long resident of St. Bernard Parish until 2005 and moved to Pontchatoula, LA. Family and friends attended the funeral mass and visitation on Friday, January, 5, 2018 in the J. Garic Schoen chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Interment was in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery #3, New Orleans, LA. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
