Reverend Nicholas Peter Pericone, J.C.L., a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, died on March 10, 2018 at the age of 54. Reverend Nicholas Pericone was born in Denver, CO, on August 29, 1963. His elementary education was at St. Mary’s in Littleton, CO, and Our Lady of Lourdes in Slidell, LA. His secondary education was at St. Paul’s in Covington. He received a B.S. in both Management and General Business at the University of New Orleans. Fr. Nick attended St. Joseph Seminary in St. Benedict, LA, and received his philosophy and theology education at Notre Dame Seminary. He was ordained to the priesthood in New Orleans on May 25, 1996. In 2005, Fr. Pericone received a Licentiate in Canon Law from The Catholic University of America. He served as Associate at Immaculate Conception Church in Marrero, as Parochial Vicar at St. Mark Church, Chalmette and St. Louis King of France Church in Metairie. He was in residence at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Mary Magdalen, St. Charles Borromeo, St. Matthew the Apostle, and Mater Dolorosa Parishes. Father Nick also served as Chaplain at Archbishop Hannan High School from 1999-2001, and was Defender of the Bond, and Promoter of Justice for Penal Cases in the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. After serving as Chaplain at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, Father Pericone was on medical leave at the time of his death. Well done, good and faithful servant! It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our loving mother, Deanna Smith Schultz, who passed peacefully on March 31, 2018. She was the loving daughter of the late Wilfred John Smith and Lorraine Dantonio Smith. After a long and courageous fight, Ronald J. Haggerty, Sr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 22, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 79. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Chanove Haggerty; his four sons, Brian (Dorothy), Keith (Dee Dee), Ronald, Jr. (Theresa), and Glenn (Melissa); grandchildren, Shawn (Jennifer), Rachel, Sarah, Patrick, Grace, Ronald III (Josh), Cate, and an expected great-grandson. Also survived by his sister, Ernestine (Teena) H. Doria (John), nephew Daniel and nieces Patti, Gina, Katie, Jenny, Darlene, Diane and Darnell. Predeceased by his parents Raymond, Sr. and Veronica Migliore, and his brothers Raymond, Jr. (Bessie), Jack (Rose), John (Anna Mae), and sister Dianne (Sid). Ronald was a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of St. Bernard Parish for 42 years until Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when he relocated to Orlando, FL. He was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School where he captained both the baseball and basketball teams, and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Tulane University. His Tulane baseball career, playing for Mel Parnell, was cut short due to an arm injury his freshman year. He was an avid Yankees fan and an original ticket holder for the New Orleans Saints. He held positions as an accountant for J.K. Byrne & Company and comptroller for Marks Isaacs, Ltd., programmer for the Boeing Company at the NASA Space Center at Michoud, LA where he worked on the Apollo program that lifted the first astronaut to walk on the moon (Neil Armstrong), systems analyst at the NASA Space Center in Houston, TX and La. Land & Exploration Co. Also, was co-owner of Athletic Arena Sporting Goods, H & R Accounting and Gulf Islands Water Park. He distinguished himself as a public official in St. Bernard Parish as an elected Police Juror (Councilman) and President of the St. Bernard Parish Police Jury, and held several positions with St. Bernard Parish Government, including Director of Parks and Recreation and the St. Bernard Cultural Center. He was a pack leader for the Cub Scouts, and served as President for the Carolyn Park Boosters Assn. His greatest love was volunteer coaching hundreds of boys in Little League sports for over twenty years in baseball, basketball, football and track and watching his grandchildren participate in athletic and other activities. Roy E. Fernandez, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. He was the loving husband of 51 years to Inez Reyes Fernandez and proud father of Kim F. (Dr. Donald R. Duplantier) and grandfather of Tracy, Rene, Brooke, Maggie, Neil and Amy Duplantier. He is also survived by his sister, Linda F. Armstrong, many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. and Marie Benenate Fernandez and his brother, Frank. Roy graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School and honorable served in the Louisiana Army National Guard. He worked at Shell Oil Company, A-1 Copy Center and Roy’s Copy Service. He retired in 2005 from St. Bernard Parish. Roy grew up with a love for fishing in Lake Pontchartrain at Irish Bayou. He enjoyed wood-working in his garage, traveling the state for different festivals, watching old westerns, LSU sports and NFL football season. His annual joke was telling his wife that he loved her and would see her after football season ended. But the highlight of his life was being a witness to the achievements of his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He rarely missed an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. Octavia L. Marquez Dibuono passed away at her residence on March 27, 2018 in Denham Springs, LA, at the age of 68. Octavia was born in New Orleans to Pauline and Nace Lamonte, Sr. on August 12, 1949. Mary Saling Corley joined her loved ones in Heaven on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the age of 88. Preceded in death by her husband Bradley Daniel Corley, daughter Joycelyn Corley, great-granddaughter Artemis June Hite, and brothers George Saling and Eugene Saling. Daughter of the late Mary Lovoi Saling and George Andrew Saling, Jr. Much-loved mother of Carolyn Corley Lane and Catherine Corley Devane. Grandmother of Jennifer Brubaker Favalora and Cherilyn Westcott Hite (Kelsey). Great-grandmother of Evan Bradley Favalora, Freyja Briana Hite and Cedar Lake Hite. Godmother to Brett Sosa, Donna Saling Autin, and the late Melanie Saling. “Vanilla Mama” to cherished friend Dianne Lewis. “Maru” was born in 1929 and was a native and resident of New Orleans, Louisiana until 1960 when she moved to Chalmette. Berchman Joseph Church
Berchman Joseph Church, formally of Chalmette, Louisiana passed away on Sunday March 11, 2018 with his loving family by his side at the age of 84. Berchman was born December 23, 1933 in New Orleans to his parents, Helen Bevan Church and Berchman John Church; He is also predeceased by his brother, Martin Church and his grandson, Dylan Galila. Berchman is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eleanora V. Church; daughter Cathy Galila (Leo); and son Gerald Church; grandchildren Ethan Church, Ashley Church Schwartz, and Jade M Kennedy; sisters, Margaret Church Benbrooke and Myrtle Church Blanchard. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; Mary Riviere (Don), Dennis Bodungen (Cheryl), Fred Bodungen (Cathy), Martin Blanchard Jr., Sue Ellen Carter and Maureen Blanchard; and twelve grand-nieces and nephews. Berchman graduated from Holy Name of Mary School; and worked as an X-ray technician in the VA Hospital of New Orleans. He loved spending time with his family and friends. A celebratory gathering for Berchman was held Wednesday, April 4,2018 from at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. A memorial service will occur Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana.
