POINT OF VIEW
America is witnessing a cultural purge unlike anything seen in this nation before. Books, magazines, movies, television shows, authors, columnists, are all being “cancelled” as revisionists seek reasons to find offense and demand the removal of that which they find offensive. A diversity of ideas is no longer in fashion, replaced by “Groupthink.”
Besides being contrary to the fundamental philosophical foundations of our republic, this wave of anti-intellectualism is extremely misguided being driven by people who lack even the most basic understanding of history. Everything for them is emotional and they lack the intellectual discipline to examine in depth that which they oppose. Likely, they fear they may discover errors in their judgement.

Earl Henry Schneider, Jr.
Earl Henry Schneider, Jr. passed away on July 24, 2020 peacefully at his home in Chalmette, LA, surrounded by his love ones Delphine Pagano, Mary Ann Aguilar and two of his granddaughters Ashley and Sarah; at the age of 83. Ashley sang “You are my Sunshine” to him as he gained his angel wings. He will truly be missed. Earl was born in New Orleans on August 5, 1936 to Earl Henry Schneider Sr. and Camille Faust. Earl grew up in the ninth ward where he attended Saint Cecilia until 1951. Later that year, he and his family would make a decision that would frame the rest of his life. Earl’s decision was to continue his education at Holy Cross High School. From 1951 to 1955, his high school years, Earl became somewhat of a local high school legend. During this time, he compiled numerous awards and athletic records. Many of those records would last for years. He was a four-year letterman in Track, a two-year letterman in Football and served as captain for both squads his senior year. In 1955, Earl ran a 9.8 100-yard dash. That was the fastest time recorded by a high school athlete, but it was football where the young speedster shined. As a senior tailback for the Holy Cross Tigers, Earl compiled the first 1000-yard season ever by a high school athlete in the state of Louisiana and was responsible for scoring over 120 points his senior year. During that magical season there was a fivegame stretch where the first time he touched the football he scored. He was named to the All-Prep, All-State, and All-Southern teams, was a Catholic All-American and was the recipient of the Sugar Bowl Athlete Award. After graduating from Holy Cross, Earl accepted a track scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana. He suffered a severe leg injury his freshman year and was never the same. After graduating from SLU with a Degree in Physical Education he returned to Holy Cross in 1961, where he began his career as an educator and role model to countless young men. For 22 years, Earl was the Tiger’s Head track Coach. During this time Coach Schneider spent his days teaching mathematics and PE. Before and after school Coach Schneider took a walk on the wild side. He taught Drivers Education to very young Holy Cross and Holy Angles students. Earl retired from teaching and coaching in 1987. He remained at Holy Cross until 2016 as Director of Maintenance. On March 12, 2016 Earl Henry Schneider Jr., a member of the first class; was inducted into Holy Cross’s Athletic Hall of Fame. In total, Coach Earl Schneider spent 59 years at Holy Cross. A true Holy Cross Man. Earl called Chalmette, LA home. He moved there in 1966 and never left. Throughout his life Earl had many hobbies and excelled at most of them, but the one he loved the most was designing and building furniture. He truly enjoyed fishing, painting, and driving his Corvette to the Gulf Coast. Later in life you could find him at the casinos on the weekends, with Del, playing the slots and eating crab legs at the buffets. Earl had four children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and if Pawpaw was coming to visit, rest assure his grandchildren knew fresh donuts were on the menu for the day. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in their individual activities. Baseball games, football games, dance competitions, music recitals and concerts Pawpaw was there to cheer them on. Earl is proceeded in death by his children: Terri S. Creech (David), Earl H. Schneider III (Helena), Ann Marie Wolfe and Karen Huffaker (Bart). His Grandchildren: Johnathan Bennet, Shelby Bennet, Valorie Schneider, Devin Schneider, Ashley Wolfe, Sarah Wolfe and Tyler Wolfe. Richard “Buddy” Ladnier
Richard “Buddy” Ladnier departed this life on Monday, August 10, 2020 at his home in Alvin, TX, at the age of 79. Born on December 1, 1940, in Gulfport, MS, he was the second of three children by Richard O. Ladnier, Sr. and Theresa Normand Ladnier (Granny). Others knew him as Buddy, Budsy, or Pop. About age 11 the family moved to Bunkie, LA, where he grew up living the carefree life of a boy, having BB gun wars with friends, sleeping in a screened porch (even through the winter) because he wanted his own room. He enjoyed sports, played halfback on the varsity football team, and there’s the story of the log cabin in the woods... built with his friends on private property, without first getting permission from the owner. After high school he enlisted in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. Went to boot camp in San Diego, later stationed at Balboa Hospital & Camp Pendleton. During this time he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Boudreaux-Young, they had three sons Rick, John, and Russ (better known as Ricky, Randy, and Rusty). After his military service, they moved to Lafayette, where he attended University of Southwest Louisiana. Through the years, he worked in a variety of professions, living in New Orleans, Lafayette, Chalmette, and Houma. Their marriage turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, they remained friendly and went on to raise their boys. He found his true calling in life and built a career in health and safety within the oil & gas industry, which eventually brought him to Houston, meeting Maria Palacios. They married, raised their daughters Sally and Kimberly. From Houston they returned to Lafayette, and then to Mesquite, TX. The later is where Richard reached the pinnacle of his career, as the Director of Safety for a mid-size oil exploration company. With mergers, acquisitions, and a bit of an oil bust Richard was on the move again, working and living in Louisiana, Houston, and Pensacola, before settling in Alvin, TX, where he and Maria would live out the rest of their lives together. Richard was a peaceful man, with passive optimism. No matter how bad things may seem, he never complained, and always looked on the bright side. Whatever the case, be patient and make the best with what you have. He enjoyed his hot coffee (with chicory), an occasional cold beer, and even a rare game of bouré, as long as it was just for fun. He took pleasure in traveling, photography, and always found comfort on Dauphin Island, especially when fried mullet and boiled shrimp were being served. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Maria. He is survived by his sisters (Alice Aymond and Doris Bourque), sons, daughters, and grandchildren Luisa, Ollie, Donnie, Derick, Jaden, Baylor, Delaney, Jessica and Joshua. He will be laid to rest on August 22, 2020 at San Jacinto Cemetery, Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in his name to your favorite charity.
