David George Showalter, a decorated Veteran of the U.S. Navy who proudly served his country as a as Storekeeper Third Class during the Korean War, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the age of 81. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Tommie Dennis Showalter. Loving father of Dennis A. Showalter (Jan), Tina S. Lobrano, Randy J. Showalter (Regina) and the late David G. Showalter Jr. Son of the late James and Freida Kern Showalter. Brother of Julius H. Showalter and the late Gerald Showalter, James A. Showalter and Charles Showalter. Proud grandfather of Mark Showalter, Bryan Lobrano, Dennis “DJ” Showalter, Jordan Showalter, Savannah Showalter, Devin Showalter, Justan Showalter, Randal Showalter and the late Thomas “Little Tommy” Lobrano and David Showalter. Great grandfather of Michael Lobrano, Kaliegh Lobrano, Noah Lobrano, Alyssa Lobrano, Baylee Showalter, Jax Showalter and Adriana Showalter. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. David was born in Alexandria, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where he enjoyed a long career as a Dispatcher with LA Industries. He was well loved by us all and will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, who fought for his country and treasured his family. Relatives and friends attended a memorial gathering held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, October 31, 2016, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service in David’s memory. Burial was private.
