Geraldine “Gerry” Ann Comment Mitchell

Geraldine “Gerry” Ann Comment Mitchell went home, peacefully, to the Lord on Monday, December 21, 2020. Gerry was born in New Orleans and, after marriage, lived in St. Bernard Parish, for many years, until Hurricane Katrina when she moved to Tickfaw and lived there until the present. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Comment; her brother John “JJ” Comment Jr.; her husband Romain Louis Mitchell, Sr.; her son Romain “Ray” Louis Mitchell, Jr.; her niece Mary Ann, and nephew Johnny. Gerry is survived by three sons Guy Mitchell (Debra), Fr. Mike Mitchell, Chris Mitchell (Janice); four grandchildren: Michell, Anthony, Bryce and Mikah; four great-grandchildren: Mark, Jasmine, Atrayu and Lathen; brother Richard “Tookie” Comment (Joyce); nephew Ricky; two nieces: Patricia and Diane; and, of course, her beloved chihuahuas Mini and Wini (her real children). Gerry worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company as a quality control line worker for about 18 years until they closed. She also worked for Spectrum Systems, building circuit boards, until she retired. “Mother” (you did not call her “Mom”) loved to sew. She made all of her children’s Halloween and Mardi Gras costumes and costumes for Christmas plays, as well. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, loved to dance, loved Frankie Lane, Perry Mason, country music, and David Jansen of the Fugitive TV series. Mother was a diehard Saints fan, so you did not call her when the game was on. When she wasn’t wearing the black and gold Mother’s favorite color to wear, especially going out to an event, was purple. She was an excellent cook: Paneed meat, roast, red beans and rice, spaghetti and meatballs, and everyone’s favorite -Baked Macaroni and the amount of food was always as if she still had four growing boys at home.Due to Covid concerns the family had a private service at Greenwood Cemetery on Friday, January 15, 2021. On Saturday, January 23, 2021, family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass, and celebration of Gerry’s life, at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, 1000 N. Starrett Rd, Metairie, LA 70003. Church opens at 10 a.m. with Mass at 12 p.m. noon. Please wear Masks and practice social distancing within and outside of the Church. 110 Person limit within the Church. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories, and condolences online, at www.greenwoodfh.com.
