Michael Joseph “Joe” Navis, born April 25, 1958; passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at his home at the age of 62. A lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish, Joe was an avid outdoorsman whose passions included hunting, fishing, and boating, often accompanied by his beloved bird dog. He was an admired special education and history teacher for the Orleans Parish School Board. Joe also coached basketball and softball. He was a loving husband, father of four, and a doting grandfather. In his retirement, he became a gardening enthusiast and raised chickens. Michael Joseph Navis is survived by his devoted wife, Roxanne; daughters Christalyn, Sarah, and Chasity; his son John; grandchildren Emily, Dylan, Violet, Ashton, and Stella; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by parents Sidney Joseph Navis Jr. and Francis Balderrama Navis; and his brother Sidney James “Jimmy” Navis. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
