James "Jimmy" P. McCarthy, beloved husband of Mitzi Bienvenu McCarthy, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 26, 2021 at the age of 75 with his family by his side. He was the son of the late James R. McCarthy and Edith Boesch McCarthy. Jimmy's devotion to his family was the essence of his life. He was the dedicated father of Tracy Laiche (Brian) and James P. McCarthy Jr. (Paul Cramer). Jimmy has two adoring grandchildren, Gavin and Ali Laiche. He was the loving brother of Terry McCarthy (Nancy), Danny McCarthy (Debbie), Eileen Martinez (Simo), and the late Richard McCarthy (Rhea). He was the dedicated godfather to Kevin Jimenez, Amy Arthur, Nancy McCarthy, Laura Campo, and Edie Martinez. He is also survived by his aunt, Marilyn Boye (Willis) and his stepmother, Freda McCarthy, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jimmy was a graduate of the Chalmette High School class of 1964, followed by six years of service to his country in the Army National Guard. He spent 40 years building a successful career in construction management, specializing in millwork. He also served as treasurer of McCarthy Engineering alongside his father and brother. He and his wife were founders of J&R Grill in Chalmette and he later served as a manager for the Palms Casino. He was a member of the St. Bernard Jaycees and Ducks Unlimited. In his early life, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and spending time with his loved ones at his camp in Little Woods. Jimmy had an incredible sense of humor, and laughter was contagious for all who were blessed to be in his presence. He never took life too seriously and was often the life of the party. He was a true patriarch in every sense of the word, offering advice or a helping hand to anyone in need. He will live on in the hearts of all who know him, and the lives he touched with his laughter, kindness, wisdom, and generosity. Relatives and friends of the family attended the visitation and funeral services on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans. Interment: St. Patrick Cemetery #3, New Orleans, LA.
