Lucille Rushing DuCongé

Lucille Rushing DuCongé passed into heaven early on February 6, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born on January 26, 1924 in Newellton, LA. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Elliott John “Bill” DuCongé and her youngest son, Christopher John DuCongé. Lucille was the daughter of the late Ola Mae Hall Rushing and Claude Rushing and sister to the late Hubert Rushing, Melvin “Hot” Rushing, and Mamie Lee Rushing Morgan. Lucille is survived by four children, Dr. Linda Sue Grimme Fontenot and her husband Dr. Joseph Fontenot of Daphne, AL, Diana Joy DuCongé Lokar and her husband, William Lokar of Anderson, SC, Stephen DuCongé and his wife, Jean DuCongé of Houston, TX, and Penny Marie DuCongé Caracciola and her husband, Michael Caracciola of Hammond, LA. Lucille is also survived by brothers and sisters, Robert Rushing, John Willis Rushing, Ed Rushing, Clifton Earl Rushing, Patricia “Patsy” Wayne Rushing Adkerson, and Mary Katherine “Kat” Rushing Michaelson. She also leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Lucille grew up on a farm as the oldest of the 10 children, worked in various sales jobs, and even packed bombs during World War II. She moved to New Orleans in the late 1940’s and worked at the Domino Sugar Refinery where she met the love of her life “Bill.” She lived in Chalmette, LA for over 50 years until Katrina took her home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A memorial service to celebrate Lucille’s life will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel.
