Herman L. “Buck” Barkemeyer, of Covington, LA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 26, 2017 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of 49 years to Iris Jones Barkemeyer. He is also survived by his five loving children, Connie Barkemeyer Penton (Jim), Gary J. Barkemeyer (Carol), Peggy Barkemeyer Chanove (Eddie), Dennis L. Barkemeyer (Jean), and Donald “Bucks” Barkemeyer. In addition, he will be missed by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Herman L Barkemeyer, Sr. and Lilly Cosse Barkemeyer and his brother Earl Joseph Barkemeyer. He was a New Orleans native and lived most of his life in Chalmette. Mr. Barkemeyer had a prosperous career in purchasing /sales in commercial steel for over 50 years. Besides his family, his passion was in lawn care and gardening. He was involved in fund raising to help others thru the Salvation Army and Mr. Bingle. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Jacob Schoen & Son.
