John S. Butera III of Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the age of 78. John was born January 2, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his former wife, the late Carol Miller Butera to whom he was married from 1960 until her death in 1991; father John S. Butera and mother Annette W. Butera; sisters Joanet B. Schiro and Darlene B. Doss. John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 25 years, Beverly Hebert Butera; daughters Karen Butera Van Zandt (Steven) and Annette Butera Fitzgerald (Ian) and son John Frederick Butera (Brea); additionally he is survived by 1 stepson Huey J. Wattigney (Carol), and 3 stepdaughters, Roxanne W. Minet (Paul), Rochelle W. Mueller (Randy) and Jennifer W. O’Quain (Mark). Lovingly adored as Paw-Paw John and Poppa John by his 7 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren. Uncle Sam and Uncle Buddy will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. He was the proprietor for over 20 years at St. Bernard Tire and Supply in Arabi, Louisiana. He had been a longtime resident of River Ridge for the 32 years and most recently a resident of Algiers for the past 24 years. John was a lifelong Catholic and man of great faith in God. He was a former parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church in River Ridge and Holy Name of Mary Church in Algiers. John was also a former member and instructor at the Good Times Jamaica Dance Club and Back to the 50s Jamaica Club. John was known as a fun-loving, kind, gentle and generous spirit who enjoyed most being with family, dancing, Saints football, playing cards and enjoying Louisiana seafood. He was a very hard worker who gave his time and energy to his family. He greatly enjoyed life, playing jokes and having fun with family and friends. His sweet, mischievous smile, and warm and loving personality will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. The family is eternally grateful to the many caregivers at St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and at the St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who tenderly cared for John over the past 3 years. A visitation for John was held Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 10021 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge, Louisiana. A Mass of Christian burial followed. Interment was held at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of John S.
