Alvin B. Leto Sr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the age of 88. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his life. He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Delores Davenport Leto. Loving father of Sharon Ragas (Bob Badaux), Paulette Battaglia (John), Rhonda Montegut (Jim), Connie Lopez (Robert) and the late Alvin B. Leto Jr. Son of the late Peter and Frances Scandriato Leto. Brother of Adele Crews, Peter Leto Jr. (Betty) and the late Arthur Leto (Rosalie) and Josephine Chaupetta. Proud grandfather of Jamie Colombo, Lisa Pradillo, Melissa Ragas, John Battaglia Jr., Christie Duggan, Amy Felder, Mindy Torres, Jamie Matthews, Gerald “Jerry” Zulli Jr., Shannon Zulli-Lind and Zack Zulli. He is also survived and fondly remembered by his 26 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Alvin was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Denham Springs, LA. He proudly served his country as a Sargent in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, Alvin enjoyed a long career of 37 years as owner and operator of Al Leto Plumbing and Paint in Arabi, LA. He served his community and treated his customers as his own family, always going above and beyond what was expected. He found joy in sharing his knowledge and experience with his customers. When enjoying time away from work, Alvin thoroughly enjoyed creating beautiful stained glass which he enjoyed sharing with those whom he felt a special connection. His creative passion and his love for hunting and fishing was surpassed only by his love spending time with his family and friends and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, who loved his country and treasured his family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest with military honors in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
