Gladys Mary Ganaway Van Ampting

Gladys Mary Ganaway Van Ampting passed away on May 18, 2018 at the age of 86. Gladys was born in Morgan City LA on August 20, 1931 to Ernest and Edna Ganaway. She was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. After completing her education with Honors at the age of 16, she moved to New Orleans, LA where she lived at the Catholic Women’s Club as she attended New Orleans Beauty College. Gladys obtained her certification in 1949, and worked many years as a hairdresser before retiring to raise her three children. She also worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company in Gentilly for many years. Gladys met the love of her life while he was visiting New Orleans, during his service in the U.S. Air Force. Gladys was a loving devoted mother of three children Ronald Van Ampting, Paula V. Farrell (Patrick), and Tony Van Ampting (Tiffany). She is survived by her three children, her grandchildren, Ronald Van Ampting, Jr. (Gina), Joshua Farrell (Nicole), Christopher Farrell (Paige), Nicole Farrell, Kade Ponville, Logan Van Ampting, Joseph Van Ampting, and Alexa Van Ampting. Also great grandchildren, Adalyn Farrell, Boden Farrell, Rebeckah and Matthew Van Ampting. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Ganaway and Edna Billiot Ganaway; her husband, Paul A. Van Ampting; her siblings Ernest Ganaway, Georgia Billings, and J. D. Ganaway. Special thanks to her longtime caregiver Kenyetta McCarty, also the nurses and staff of Notre Dame Hospice for their devoted and compassionate care. Relatives and friends attended a visitation and funeral mass held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.
