James Jude Castay, Sr., peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 10, 2018, in Covington, LA, while surrounded by his loving family at the age of 83. A native of New Orleans, James was longtime resident of Chalmette until Katrina; He resided in Mandeville, LA, for the last 9 years. James is survived by his loving children, Pamela C. Young (John) and James J. Castay, Jr. (Marybeth). He was adored and cherished by his grandchildren: Lisa Young Gonlag (Buddy), Lindsey Castay Garner (Caleb) and James M. Castay (Logan). Paw Paw “Jimmy” was loved and adored by his great granddaughters: Madalyn Gonlag, Malaina Gonlag and Shiloh Garner. He is also survived by his loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. James was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Steger Castay, and his son, Timothy A. Castay. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Odile (Pearl) J. Castay and Philip L. Castay, and his siblings, Elvina Martin, Althea Keyes, Doris Prattini, Leon Castay and Sheldon Castay. James was an honorably discharged Veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired employee of Dixie Brewery. Relatives and friends are attended a visitation and Prayer Service at Serenity Funeral Home, 20419 Highway 36, Covington, LA, on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. Interment followed at Lake Lawn Mausoleum, 5454 Ponchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. His family would like to extend a special thank you and deepest appreciation to his wonderful caregivers at Lakeview Regional Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit.
