Juan Peter Montelongo was carried away by Angels to his final resting place in heaven to be with God, our Father, on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the age of 68. He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel Montelongo and Martha Hayes Montelongo as well as his brothers, Robert, Raymond and Frankie; and sisters, Bernice and Norma. Juan was the loving father of Glynn Montelongo (Nikki), Jen Montelongo and Alesha M. Schifano (Chip), proud Grandfather of Tyler and Britten Cheramie, Devyn, Brennan and Liam Montelongo and Kelsey, Sydneigh and Leighton Schifano. Proud Great Grandfather of Braxton and Holland Cheramie and Vayda Kinkella. He is also survived by his brothers Manuel Montelongo Jr. (Yetta), Emanuel Montelongo (Sally), Edward Montelongo (Myra), Richard Montelongo (Margie) and sisters Irene April and Jacinta (Tinta) Alfonso (Stanley). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Juan was raised on Delacroix Island and was a resident of St. Bernard Parish most of his life. In his earlier years he discovered his love for thoroughbred horse racing and became a jockey. He later worked as a crane operator at Electro Coal Terminal in Plaquemines Parish. After many years he returned to his passion of caring and breeding horses. Juan truly lived life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. He was passionate about carpentry and building/riding Harley Davidson’s. He also enjoyed playing pool, visiting the French Quarter, listening to Blues Bands and attending the New Orleans Jazz Fest. He loved seafood and had a special love for Rocky & Carlo’s Restaurant, as it was always his first stop when coming home to the Parish. Juan will be greatly missed by so many who loved him including his buddy Rottweiler “Smoky”. Immediate family visitation will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at St Bernard Catholic Church located at 2805 Bayou Rd. St Bernard, LA 70085. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a Memorial Mass from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial to follow from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Family and friends are also invited to attend Juan’s Celebration of Life immediately following at The Abbey Rose, located at 2900 Oak Ridge Blvd., Violet, LA 70092.
