Edgar James “Matt” Mathews, III, on Sunday August 12, 2018 passed away at his home in Mandeville, LA after his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 61. He was the beloved husband of Karen Hewitt Mathews and loving father of Edgar James Mathews, IV and Sarah Marie Mathews. Born February 7, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Gerry Roy Mathews and the late Edgar James Mathews, Jr., he was a life-long resident of Arabi and Chalmette, Louisiana. Edgar was a project manager for Royal Engineers and Consultants LLC. He was a graduate of Holy Cross High School, class of 1975. He will be deeply missed by his four siblings: Amy Mathews Zimmer (Rick), Edwin Roy Mathews (Pamela), Beth Mathews Golden (Bill) and Jo Mathews Gautreaux (Michael); in-laws James Hewitt, Sr., James Hewitt, Jr. (Pattye). and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday August 25, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St. in Mandeville, LA. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 1:30 p.m. Th e family wishes to thank the staff of St. Tammany Parish Hospital and Hospice for their loving compassion and care shown towards Edgar at the end of his life.
