Georgia Mae Smith Bigelow passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the age of 84. She was the cherished wife of 46 years to the late Halbert H. Bigelow Jr. Loving mother of Halbert Bigelow III, Kathryn Hurt (Kenny) and Linda dePascual (Lou). Proud grandmother of Peter Bigelow, Robert Bigelow, Halbert Bigelow IV, Brenda Bradshaw, Angelina Vellon, Laura Hurt, Georgia Hurt Hill, Louis dePascual, Lindsay Wait, Lauren dePascual, Arlin Hurt and Michelle Tregre. Sister-in-law of Shirley Smith and Frank Ragusa. She is also survived and fondly remembered by her 18 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents George Smith and Willie Alford Smith (former wife of the late Louis LeBlanc); her daughter-in-law Janie Bigelow; siblings Jessie Smith, Hilda Warner, Betty Shook and Gerry Ragusa; and her brother-in-law Karl Warner. Georgia was a native of Hammond, LA and a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where she enjoyed a long career and business owner of Georgia’s Beauty Salon. She was devoted to her Lord and Savior - serving, celebrating and volunteering many years at First Baptist Church of Chalmette. She was educated in the use of sign language and often used her skill to assist at the church, funerals and other functions. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her love, laughter, kindness and compassion. Relatives and friends attended avisitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home,701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, September 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in her memory. She was laid to rest with her beloved husband in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
