Yvonne Dolese Bernard Trascher

Yvonne Dolese Bernard Trascher, a native of New Orleans, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 19, 2021, at the age of 96. Yvonne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Conrad Trascher Jr.; her parents, Marcelle and George Bernard and her son, Charles ("Chuck") Trascher III. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Susan Doody (Steve), her son Kenneth Trascher (Angelika) and daughter-in-law Barbara Trascher; six grandchildren, Charlen Campbell, Spencer Doody, Colleen Doody, Charles Conrad ("Rad") Trascher IV, Meghan Coleman and Elizabeth Spansel; eight great-grandchildren, Jane and Claire Campbell, Charles, Henry and Wyatt Spansel, Grant and Samuel Coleman and Conrad Trascher. Yvonne was a 1943 graduate of Holy Angels High School. Reflective of the employment opportunities for women at the time, Yvonne explained that she enrolled in secretarial school because she was too short for nursing school and worked briefly for the United Fruit Company. She married Charles, her high school sweetheart, in 1946. Their devotion to each other was evident to all who met them. Once homebuilders and resellers in St. Bernard Parish where they raised three children, Yvonne and Charles settled in Venetian Isles in 1974 in a home they designed for their retirement and where they were one of the subdivision’s first residents. Prior to moving to the waterfront full-time, Yvonne and Charles spent half-weeks at their boathouse in West End, boating and entertaining (and being entertained) by their many friends. They made frequent sailing trips to “the Islands" and came to realize their dream of hosting their children and grandchildren on their boat in the Abacos, Bahamas. Their love for the water was passed on to their children, all three of whom came to live on the water themselves. After Charles died in 1994, Yvonne moved to Metairie to be near family. There, she was an active parishioner of St. Angela of Merici and its senior activities and was especially active in the lives of her daughter and grandchildren. Although they lived away from New Orleans, Yvonne delighted in the regular phone calls and visits with her sons Ken and Chuck and their families, who were a constant source of her joy and pride. Yvonne was a talented cook (her recipes hang framed in several family member's kitchens), practiced seamstress, had a keen fashion sense, was fastidious in appearance (Yvonne would not be seen un-accessorized or without lipstick into her 90's), and was an award-winning fisherman (yes, Yvonne once won a Marlin rodeo). She will be remembered most, however, for the kind and gracious manner she treated everyone she encountered, and for the unconditional love and support she gave in abundance to her family. Yvonne may not have known what she did to deserve all the love and kindness she received in this world, but we all know that it was just a mirror of what she gave. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A funeral mass will be said at Greenwood Funeral Home on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 11 a.m. Preceded by visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will be at Garden of Memories.

Bonnie Foret Greer

Bonnie Foret Greer, wife of the late Thomas Jarvis Greer, passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 21, 2021, in Miramar Beach, FL, at the age of 79. Loving mother of daughter Tracy Greer Hook (Thomas) and son Gregory Douglas Greer, she is survived by her children, granddaughters Charlotte Lucy Kingsley (Harris) and Claire Germaine Hook, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bonnie was born in New Orleans, LA, on October 28, 1941, to Antoine Sweeney and Doris Vaughan Foret. Their only child, she excelled academically at St. Maurice Parochial School in the Ninth Ward and Annunciation High School in New Orleans and participated in Glee Club and dance lessons. Upon graduation she worked for two years as Secretary to the Purchasing Agent at Standard Fruit & Steamship Company. While working at Standard Fruit, she met Jarvis, an auditor with Price Waterhouse who passed Bonnie’s desk regularly while there on business. She thought he acted aloof; one day she stopped him and told so. They soon began dating and were married on October 28, 1961. They eventually designed and built a home in Arabi, LA, where they began their family. Among her civic and social activities, Bonnie was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and the St. Bernard Parish Homemakers Club and served as a Brownie Scout Troop Leader. In 1971 the family moved to Memphis, TN. Bonnie was active in her children’s school events and extracurricular activities. She participated in several clubs, including the Memphis Garden Club and Duration Club often taking on the responsibilities of leadership positions. She was also a founding member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit in Memphis. Bonnie indulged her love of music by joining the Memphis River City chorus of Sweet Adelines in which she sang Bass. She was delighted to join her first quartet, Unlimited Edition, performing throughout the city and competing at Regional contests. In 1982 the family relocated to Miami, FL, where Bonnie quickly adapted to her new environment, enjoying the variety of cultures and cuisine. Bonnie continued her association with Sweet Adelines with the Suncoast chorus. After a rigorous audition she was invited to join the Sunkist quartet. Sunkist finished second twice at Regional competitions. In 1986, Sunkist won the Region 9 contest and proceeded to the International competition in Philadelphia later that year. From a collection of thirty-nine quartets, Sunkist finished in the Top 20. That secured Sunkist’s invitation to compete at the International competition again in 1987 in Hawaii. After Sunkist disbanded, Bonnie was invited to join the Showtime quartet. They won the Region 9 contest and finished fourth at the international competition. She later joined and competed with the Royal Palm Chorus, too. As a member of Region 9, Bonnie held leadership positions including Director of Musical Activities. Bonnie and Jarvis moved again in 1991 to Brentwood, TN. She joined the Metro Nashville Sweet Adelines chorus and remained an active member for most of her time in Nashville. Widowed in 1995, Bonnie was eventually ready for a fresh start and built a home at Sandestin Resort in the Destin, FL, area. Bonnie customized a floor plan she found in a magazine and oversaw the entire project with the general contractor. Bonnie would move a few more times, living in Katy, TX; Daytona Beach Shores, FL; New Smyrna Beach, FL; and Orange City, FL. More recently, Bonnie moved to The Heritage Waterside assisted living facility in Daytona Beach Shores. She started an Ambassador program to greet new residents, often consulted with the chef over menu items, began a version of Red Hat Society for the residents, and organized a Mardi Gras celebration for residents as well. Her friends elected her Queen of the Mardi Gras! Just this past spring, Bonnie returned to the Destin, Florida area to be closer to family. Bonnie excelled at design and event planning. She loved hosting parties and was also an accomplished amateur chef and baker, so there were always delicious treats often reflecting her Cajun and Creole New Orleans roots to delight her guests. Her interest in design and fashion was always reflected in her homes and attire. She took great care and pride in decorating for the holidays, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Bonnie traveled broadly including trips to China and Russia and loved going on cruises with friends. At home, she was always surrounded by her cats and especially loved her Maine Coon cat Boys. Bonnie lived life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. He undertook innumerable projects, including launching a video poker business and acting as a partner in Breton Sound Dock and Marina. Johnny loved to visit and took an interest in other people's stories, which meant that he was always surrounded by friends. But for all his varied accomplishments and exploits, Johnny's family endures as his proudest achievement. Raising his son and three daughters alongside his wife Kim was his life's work, and it was through that work that many in the community came to know him as the kind, strong, and generous individual who was never too busy to help those around him. Though his happiest days were spent at the beach with family and friends, his best days were spent coaching his children's basketball and track teams, tending to his camellia nursery, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was fortunate to know true happiness and quick to share that happiness with others. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Howe Despeaux, his only son, Rhett John Despeaux (Katy), his three daughters, Rachel Alexandra Despeaux (Clay Dillow), Lauren Nicole Despeaux Munley (Michael), Victoria Jon Despeaux (Pepe Muñoz), and three grandchildren who he adored, Rylan John Despeaux, Cole Michael Kavanaugh, and Samira Elizabeth Despeaux. He is also survived by his uncle Ronald Despeaux (Judy), nieces Mari Ann (Marie) and Suzette (Linda) Callais, mother-in-law Isabelle Howe, sister-in-law Roxanne Engerbretson, brothers-in-law Jeff and Mike (Elaine) Howe, many cousins, great nieces, great grandnieces and an endless network of friends whom he cared for deeply and who he was incredibly thankful for. Johnny was welcomed into his next adventure by his parents, Roy John Despeaux Sr. and Bernadette Despeaux, and his sister Karen Ann "Nanny" Despeaux Callais along with a host of other friends and family who no doubt missed his long-winded stories and selfless spirit. As per Johnny's wishes, there will be no funeral service. However, the family would love for you to share any photos and stories you may have to despeauxphotos@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Johnny's lifelong love of the outdoors, online donations can be made to Christ Episcopal School in Covington in honor of Johnny Despeaux. These funds will be earmarked for the Wilderness Education Program, which continues to provide the kind of experiential learning opportunities that allowed Johnny to share his understanding and appreciation of nature with his children and their peers.
