Harold “Lightning” Anthony Lightell, a veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his country during World War II, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of many years to Catherine “Kitty” Evans Lightell. Loving father of Rickey (Kerri), Robin, Reggie, Christine (Todd) and the late Charlotte. Son of the late Jacque and Edna. Brother of Eunice, Rudy and the late Paul. Proud grandfather of Ross, Rick, Klein, Collin, Joshua, Todd Tyler, Hunter, Kristina and Dalila. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and especially Klein, Rick Anthony and Diane. Cynthia May Jones Woods was born on December 9, 1959 in Roatan, Honduras to the proud parents of Keith and Natalie Jones; who preceded her in death. Cynthia lived with her five older siblings, Rodney, Rhonda, Fred, Lanney and twin Wynthia. In 1963 her father and mother worked hard to bring their children to the United States and chose to settle in New Orleans, LA. At the age of 19, Cynthia met her first love Leny Woods and the two were married on January 18, 1979. Over the next few years, the couple welcomed three children: Michael (Brooke), Jenny and Sabrina. Cynthia loved the outdoors, cooking and most of all caring for her beloved children. Cynthia taught her children the importance of an education and encouraged them to achieve their goals and dreams. In 2016, Cynthia was overjoyed to welcome her first grandchild, Jackson Owen Woods, whom she loved dearly. She fought a hard battle against cancer for the past five years and we are tremendously proud of her strength and courage. He was the brother-in-law of the late Virgin Vallee and Richard F. Wallace, the late Shirley and George J. Vallee Jr., son-in-law of the late Albertine Gonzales Vallee and George J. Vallee Sr. He will be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Howell was a native of New Orleans, LA and a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, currently residing in Denham Springs, LA. He operated his business, Howell J. Merwin Sheet Metal Co. for over 35 years and was an employee of the St. Bernard Parish School Board from 1978 until his retirement in October 2005. Doris Fredricks Martin passed peacefully from this world on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at her home in Kenner LA. She is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life Robert Martin; her mother, Anna Schroeder Fredricks, her father; Thomas Fredricks; her grandson, Cody Martin; her sister, Rita Bouterie and her brothers, Elwood and Lionel Fredricks. She is survived by her four children, Melanie Fernandez (Rickey), Kathleen Martin, Barbara Puderer, (Dennis) and Robert Martin Jr. (Jill). She was “Mamere” to her four grandchildren, Tonya Taaffe Bode (Chase), Kea Sherman Bodenheimer (Neal), Jeff Taaffe (Mary Claire), Kaitlyn Martin; two step grandchildren, Kirk Fernandez (Mandy) and Karen Dalferes. She is survived by 10 great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren. She was “Aunt Dottie” to numerous nieces and nephews. Her life began on February 27, 1925 in New Orleans, LA and continued in Arabi, LA until Hurricane Katrina forced her to move to Kenner, LA. She started a new life with new friends at Nouveau Marc retirement community. She loved her church, leading the rosary and way of the cross for her neighbors and residents. Doris also enjoyed music, art, sewing for her family and friends, as well as playing bingo, pokeno and card games. She has been a diehard Saints fan since their beginning at Tulane Stadium, where she, Bob and other family members enjoyed their season tickets. But her greatest pleasure was to be together with all of her family and celebrate many happy occasions. Doris never met a stranger and had an irrepressible love of life. She will be forever remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her. He enjoyed preaching the gospel to family, friends and also in the mountains of Guatemala, New Jersey, New York, and enjoyed his missionary work in Honduras and Central America. He was well loved and affectionately known for his good nature and generous heart. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and a friend of many, who loved his Lord and treasured his family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, May 6th from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life beginning at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. Sue Ellen Fahrenbacher
Sue Ellen Fahrenbacher journeyed to eternal joy with her Savior on April 20, 2017 at the age of 74. Sue Ellen was born on July 17, 1943 in Springfield IL. In her elementary years she moved with her parents Frank Joseph Fahrenbacher and Lois Evelyn Philbrook Fahrenbacher and her three siblings to Chalmette, LA where she lived until adulthood. She has lived in TX, NM, and CA and moved back to the New Orleans area in the late 1990’s, where she faithfully cared for her parents until their passing. After her conversion at the age of 44, her greatest joy was to share her love for Jesus and the Bible to all she encountered, regularly attending and leading bible studies, and ministering to women in many different capacities. Her church home was Faithful Word Assembly in Kenner. She is survived by her exhusband Earl Whittemore, her children Wendy Whittemore Zaeringer and husband Steve Zaeringer, and John Whittemore and wife Ashley, and her siblings Ronald and Dorothy Fahrenbacher, Terry Olson, and Rick and Linda Fahrenbacher. She also has five loving grandchildren: Abigail, Joseph, Rachel and Peter Zaeringer, and Grayson Earl Whittemore. All of these and her large extended family will miss her dearly. She has touched the lives of a large number of friends and family and will always be remembered for her deep and abiding faith in Jesus and the love of Christ that she lavished on all who encountered her. Her memorial service was held on Saturday, April 29 at Lakeview Christian Center, 5885 Fleur de Lis Drive, New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, her request was that offerings would be given to her home church of Faithful Word Assembly.
