Elaine Partlan Smith

Elaine Partlan Smith returned to the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at her home in Mandeville, LA surrounded by her loving family at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Daniel Bernard Partlan Sr. and Marguerite Rittler Partlan. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joseph Albinus Smith Sr. Elaine is survived by her son Joseph A. Smith Jr. (Trudy) and daughter Sybil S. Alexander (Richard). She had a predeceased son, Keith G. Smith. She is also survived by two sisters, Yvonne Spicuzza, Patricia Burgard (Edward), and sister-in-law Blanche Partlan. She is predeceased by her brother Daniel Partlan Jr., her two sisters Carol Scheuermann (Karl) and Jacqueline Turner (Terrel). Elaine is the proud grandmother of Joseph Smith III (Stacie), Brandi Monaghan (Joseph), Shelley Dardar (James), Somer Gagnard (Mark), Edward deLivaudais (Jaime), Courtney Perez (Edward), Lainie Smith, and Stephanie Appel (Edward). She was a very loving great grandmother to Alexandra Burke (Brett), Bryce, Mason, Jacob, Madeleine, Joseph, Seth, Riley, Clare, Zoe, Jack, Olivia and Edward. She is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Elaine graduated from Annunciation High School and was the valedictorian of her class. Elaine cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Before Katrina she was a parishioner of St. Mark Parish in Chalmette, and now a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Mandeville. Elaine was an avid supporter of the New Orleans Saints and thoroughly enjoyed watching the games on television. As a season ticket holder for many years, she was extremely excited when the Saints won the Super Bowl in 2010. Gerald “Jerry” Henry Stephany passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Bonnie Veith Stephany for 28 years. Father of Frank James Stephany (Cindy). Son of the late Joseph Stephany and Elvina Vonaspen Stephany. Brother of Frank M. Stephany (the late Henrietta) and the late Joseph F. Stephany (Carol). Brother-in-law of Ed Veith (Claudia) and Mike Veith (Debby). Also survived by two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was born on December 12, 1944 in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and especially fishing. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends and all of those whose lives he touched. Antoinette Tedesco D’Aquila entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Inspired Living at the age of 87. A New Orleans native, she was born on March 6, 1932 to the late Nicolo and Patrina Centineo Tedesco. She is also preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Vincent Anthony D’Aquila and her beloved son, Roy Michael D’Aquila. Antoinette is survived by her two grandchildren, Michael Vincent D’Aquila (Genevieve) and Laurie Anne D’Aquila; great-grandchildren, Lucia Rose and Mariana Pearl D’Aquila; her daughter-in-law, Linda “Sandy” Sanders D’Aquila; and her angel, Leah Oestringer. She also will be missed by her many adopted grandchildren in the Ruiz, Sanders and Oestringer families and numerous nieces and nephews in the D’Aquila family. Antoinette was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph Academy. She married the love of her life in 1953 and eventually moved to St. Bernard Parish for many years until moving to Mandeville in 1983. She was also a resident of Ville St. Marie where she made new friends. “Mawme” as she was known by her family, will be sadly missed. Her spirit and unique sense of humor will live on through her family whom she adored above all things. Her family now takes comfort in knowing that she is now in the arms of her Savior, her only child and the loved ones that have gone before her. Brother of Edna O’Rourke, Jane Puglia, James Hernandez, Carroll Hernandez and the late Douglas Hernandez Sr., Bradley Hernandez Jr. and Warren Hernandez. Proud grandfather of Kimberly Ohler Cuccia, Christy Shahine, Ryan Roberts, Brad Roberts, Lacy Roberts, Dustin Johnson, Dayna Cefalu, Lindsey Hernandez, Matthew Hernandez and the late Michael Johnson. He was a United States Air Force Veteran and proudly served in the Korean War. Lester retired from Kaiser Aluminum after many years of dedicated service. He was strong in his faith and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends and all of those whose lives he touched. Mrs. Deedra Jane LaBrosse passed peacefully in her home in Hattiesburg, MS on May 9, 2019, after a war with pancreatic cancer at the age of 59. At the age of 29, she met her other half in Chalmette, LA. Deedra and Rodney began their life’s journey together, headed west, including a marriage on September 2nd, 1989. Deedra was a mother, housewife, gardener, and designer. She will be remembered as fiercely protective of those she loved and deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. Mrs. LaBrosse is predeceased by her father, Doug; and survived by her husband, of 29 years, Rodney; sons, Rodney, Jr. and Brandon; mother, Janine; sisters, Donna, Cherie, Daleene, as well as three grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Willow Point Church, 7 Canaan Lane, Hattiesburg, MS 39402. Speakers will be Pastor Jim Burnett, Darlene Jacobs, Brandon LaBrosse, Chuck LaBrosse and Julie Keane. A reception will follow after the services at the family home. Doris Gaines Modica passed away on Friday May 3, 2019, at the age of 97. A native of East St Louis, IL. Daughter of the late Clyde Gaines and Dora Gaines, she moved to New Orleans in 1945 to marry her beloved husband of 64 years, Charles J (Chuck) Modica who preceded her in death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Edith Hamilton and Betty Bastian. Doris is survived by her children Gail Vowell (Robert) of North Carolina, and Dorothy Hollingsworth of Norco, Louisiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren Anne Ranatza (Anthony), Karen Waguespack (Alfred), Kevin Hollingsworth (Cristy), and Karl Hollingsworth (Shelly), as well as five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Doris retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Chalmette after 30 years of service and enjoyed traveling, bowling, and participating in activities with the AARP and University City Lions Club for many years. She was a member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church where she was in the church choir. The family would like to express their appreciation for the nurses and staff of St Joseph of Harahan Nursing Home especially Javon, Nancy, DeeDee, Gail and many others who were always there for her. Sylvia M. Brown Tybussek passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the age of 81. Loving wife of the late Peter L. Tybussek. Daughter of the late Robert Brown and Isabel Connelly Brown. Raised and cherished by Hazel and Harry Ducote. Sylvia was the devoted mother of Valerie Tybussek Spiehler (Rodney) and Jimmie L. Tybussek (Lynn). Grandmother of Chantel Spiehler Byrnes (Stephen), Chad Spiehler (Sara), Nikki Spiehler Turner (Jacob), Jimmie M. Tybussek, and Brandy Tybussek. Great-grandmother of Jeremy and Julia Byrnes, Gavin and Jane Spiehler, Gage Tybussek, Isabelle Caronna, and Kayla Kuchler. Sylvia was an active member of Chit Chat, AARP #3926, Golden Ages and the Ochsner Golden Opportunity Club. She had an adventurous spirit and found great joy and freedom in travelling with her friends. She was proud to say that she visited every state in the country…except Oregon. Richard E. “Richie” Byrd passed away surrounded by his wife and children on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the age of 85. He was a resident of St. Bernard, LA. He was born in Dallas, TX, on November 20, 1933. Loving husband of 58 years to Carole Chastant Byrd. He was the father of Dayna Fitzgerald (Mark), Robert Byrd (Sandie), Sherri Lopez (Big Scottie), the late Beth Ruiz (Murphy) and Scott Byrd (Fannie). Richie is the grandfather of Darrel “DJ” Alphonso, Jr., Travis Fitzgerald, Lenny Evans, Scott Lopez, Shannon Lopez Geraci, Marissa Ruiz, Meghan Ruiz, Zackary Byrd, Antoinette (Nina) Byrd and Richard Byrd. He also was the great grandfather of Tori and Shelbi Alphonso, Brody and Brees Geraci, Scotlyn and Lane Lopez and Menah Powell. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Byrd Ruiz, his grandson, Matthew Ruiz and his sisters Helen “Biddy” Lippman and Mary “C.C.” Oracoy. Richie was the son of the late Beulah Maronge and Bruce Robert Byrd. He proudly enlisted into the US Army in 1950 and served in combat during the Korean War. He later became coowner of Harold, Incorporated in Harvey, LA. In 1970 he decided to take on a new adventure and became the owner of Pip’s Place Marina in Hopedale, LA until 1981, where he made wonderful lifelong friends. He was a member of the Millwright Union No. 1931 and travelled across the United States. Richie enjoyed spending time with all of his family, Saints parties on the back porch and a good cigar. Arthur Edward Cedotal passed away on April 5, 2019. Son of the late Edward Cedotal and Elodie Stein Cedotal Gardner. Born in White Castle, LA and a longtime resident of New Orleans, LA and Chalmette, LA and lived in Covington, LA for the last two years. Arthur is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Vidrine Cedotal, daughter; Jody Cedotal Robichaux (Ivy Jr.), grandson; Ivy Robichaux III (Thea) and great-grandchildren; Zyler and Ivy IV. Arthur served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War after graduating from Fortier High School. He received a B.A. from Tulane University and M.A. Ed. from Southeastern LA University. Former teacher, coach, and athletic director at Chalmette High School for twenty years before retiring in 1989. Prior to Chalmette, Arthur taught and coached at S.J. Peters Junior High School and John McDonogh High School in New Orleans, LA. His passion was sports. He loved teaching, coaching students and athletes, watching them grow and develop. Arthur received numerous honors during his playing career and later during his teaching and coaching career including Teacher of the Year and all-star recognition as a member of the St. Bernard Parish Hall of Fame. Brian Michael Gibson Jr. passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2019 in New Orleans, LA. He was a native of Jefferson, former resident of St. Bernard, and resident of Picayune, Mississippi. Brian will be greatly missed by his devoted wife Keri Marrero Gibson; beloved son Brian Gibson III; cherished stepsons Dylan Marrero and Brandon Gonzales Jr.; loving parents Brian Gibson Sr. (Julie) and Paullette Lopez (James II); caring siblings Charles Gibson (Mandy), Anna Gibson (Harry), Ridge Gibson, Makenzie Lopez, James Lopez III, and Giovani Lopez . He also leaves behind nephews Daniel, Brenden, and Charles Jr.; nieces Alexis and Claire; and cousins Janna and Jason. He was predeceased by grandparents Huey Creppel Sr., June Humphreys, Edward Gibson Sr., Dorothy Strohmeyer and uncle Huey Creppel Jr. Brian proudly served three years in the U.S. Navy. He was employed for many years with Octopus Towing LLC as a Lead Deckhand on “The Big Sam”. Brian was always the life of the party and his smile could light up any room. He loved to make everyone around him laugh and he was equally hardworking and a family man. His personality and sense of humor will forever be remembered by all who knew him. John Michael Glancey passed away on May 19, 2019 at the age of 70. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy Glancey. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and family members, special to him were; Roxana Moore, Donna Patchett and Johnny Bernard. He is preceded in death by his in-laws, Dorothy and Frank Weidenbacker, and brother-in-law Frank Weidenbacker Jr. John also leaves behind his beloved fur baby, Maggie Moo. John and Judy were long time residences of Chalmette, LA and currently reside in Carriere, MS. He retired from Murphy Refinery after 34 years as an operator. John enjoyed taking trips to the coast, spending time at the casinos, collecting old guns, but most of all spending time with his family. Frederick “Freddie” Michael Jennings

Frederick “Freddie” Michael Jennings passed away peacefully on May 11, 2019, surrounded by his sisters, niece and nephew at the age of 70. Born October 7, 1948, he was raised in New Orleans. During his later years, he resided in Arabi, LA. Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, the late Edward Earl Jennings and Inez Fryoux Jennings; his late sister, Dora Lee Jennings Carroll, late brother Bernard “Nunny” Jennings, late brother, Stephen “Dinky” Jennings, late brother Edward Jennings Jr., late brother Dennis Jennings, and late brother Gary Jennings. He is survived by two sisters, Aline Jennings Carroll and Dolly Jennings Dema. Also survived by many Nieces and Nephews that he loved dearly. Freddie joined the Marines at the young age of 18, (until receiving a medical discharge for partial loss of his sight while on Duty) and worked for T. Smith and Sons on the Riverfront in New Orleans for many years. Thereafter, he worked many years at CSI as a Stage Hand for the Convention Center. Freddie was known for having a “heart of gold” and truly enjoyed giving to others, never wanting anything in return. He gave to numerous Charities on a monthly basis. Freddie was especially fond of giving and spending time with his family, friends, neighbors, nieces and nephews. Freddie treasured his time spent with family especially among the holidays. Freddie was always jolly, giving, easy going and kind hearted to anyone he was around. He had many friends and neighbors who adored him as well. Freddie will be deeply missed by many. Yvonne Fontana Jouet passed away on May 13, 2019 in Pearl River, LA surrounded by loved ones at the age of 73. She was a native of New Orleans, a former resident of St. Bernard Parish, and a resident of Pearl River. Yvonne will be greatly missed by her daughter Vicki Jouet Banner, son-in-law Louis D. Banner, grandsons Jonathon C. Banner and Quin J. Banner (fiancé Brianna Reed), her niece, nephew, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Jouet Jr., parents Pascal and Dorothy Fontana, and brother Salvador Fontana. Yvonne was a graduate of Nicholls High School with the class of 1963. She was formally employed by Schneider Paper Company and spent many years taking care of her family as a homemaker. Yvonne enjoyed spending time with family and friends and playing on her computer in her spare time. Fayer Jones Norman gained her eternal wings on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the age of 84. She was the youngest daughter of the late Richard Jones and Delilah Borden Jones. Loving wife of the late Samuel A. “Buddy” Norman. Her legacy lives on in their children Judit Conde (Noel), Richard Norman (Shely), Barry Norman (Maria), Ritzy Torrez (Alex) and Kelvin Norman (Stacey); her 16 grandchildren and great granddaughter. Also survived by her sisters-in-law Clara Jones, Blanca Jones and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Alice Dixon (Cosmo), Charles Jones (Christa), Paul Jones, Ludvine Borden (Bumford), Ivy Tatum (Harding), Alberga Jones, Adelaide Page (Robert) and Andy Jones. Fayer was born and raised in Jones Ville Roatan, Honduras and moved to Chalmette, LA in August of 1982. For 43 years, Sally was the devoted and cherished wife of Emile Prattini Jr. Loving mother of Christina Prattini (Michael Myers), Gina Prattini, and Rocky Prattini. Grandmother of Leah Reeb, Tristan Reeb and grand-dog Goose. She was the sister of Sharon Lewis and Steven Higginbotham (Teresa). It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Lois Marie Sheets, “Maw” on May 11, 2019 at the youthful age of 68. A beautiful soul and selfless individual. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence after succumbing to a dignified battle Cancer. She worked many years at Gauthier Elementary School as a cook. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Jimmy Sheets; Son, Jay Sheets; Daughter, Scheree Sheets, and two grandchildren Brittany Melerine and Noah Bourne. Services will be private.

Larry Gene Smith, Sr. passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of the late Claudia Kivell Smith for 61 years. Loving father of Deborah S. Turgeau (Steven), Brenda S. Schiro (Mark), Milton R. Smith Sr. (Diane) and the late Larry Smith Jr. Son of the late Arthur “Art” Smith and Dorothy Casey Smith. Brother of Linda Spangler (Gary), Sharon Spencer and Wayne Smith (Josie). Proud grandfather of Chantel Schiro, Mark Schiro Jr. (Jennifer), Joshua Turgeau and Milton R. Smith Jr. Great grandfather of Brenee Callais, Dylan Callais, Peyton Velazquez and Ethan Turgeau. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Larry was born in Syracuse, NY, and was a resident of St. Bernard Parish for 64 years. He was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran. Larry retired from the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans after many years of dedicated service. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends and all of those whose lives he touched. Dolores V. Faust, born on March 21, 1929, passed away on May 25, 2019 at the age of 90. Beloved mother of Jacquelyn Savoy and Susan McCloskey. Grandmother of Vickie Smith, Melissa Savoy, Kelly Soroe, Jeffrey McCloskey and Terry Cannon. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emile Terry, and by her second husband, Walter Faust; her parents, Wallace M. Vega and Inez L. Landry; and her siblings, Carmen Brady, Inez Kaul, Wallace Vega Jr., Juanita Powe and Joseph Vega. Dolores was a bookkeeper, spending several years at the architectural firm of Walk, Haydel and Associates, as well as several years with Grishman and Stern Wholesale Distributors. She was a onetime member of the St. Mark Choir, and she took great delight in spending time with her friends in the Versailles Homemakers Club and the St. Bernard Association for Family and Community Education. Dolores was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of LA Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as to the The River Forest Home in Covington, for their unwavering and dedicated care of Dolores, or as they called her, “Mrs. Dee.” Relatives and friends attended a visitation and funeral mass held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W.
