Shirley Chaisson Bourquard

Shirley Chaisson Bourquard passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the age of 87. She was the cherished wife of the late Rene Albert Bourquard, Sr. for 58 years. Loving mother of Rene Albert Bourquard, Jr. and Jeanne Bourquard Wood and their spouses, Connie Thompson Bourquard and Jess Wood, Sr. Daughter of the late Harry Paul Chaisson and Gratia “Gladys” Campora Kuss. Stepdaughter of Charles W. Kuss. Sister of Harriet C. Ordes. Proud grandmother of Danielle B. Noriea (Joe), Samuel “Allen” Bodden, Jr. (Meghan) and Amanda Bourquard. She truly adored her great grandchildren Grace Elsensohn, Faith Elsensohn, Conner Noriea, Sammi Bodden, Sydney Bodden and Rhett Noriea. Also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Shirley was born on February 12, 1932 in New Orleans, LA. She was an actress at NORD Theater and taught drama at Loyola University. She was a talented opera singer and sang at local churches, including Our Lady of Prompt Succor for many years and a member of the Summerfield Shanty Singers. She was the author of several books based on her work as a certified genealogist. She will be forever remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Corey Ryan Chapman

Corey Ryan Chapman passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the age of 29. Corey was the proud father of a newborn son, Liam Chapman. He was the beloved son of Vickie D. Chapman and Richard J. Chapman. Brother of Christopher Chapman (Kim). Grandson of Virgie Posey and Jerry Posey. Nephew of Jerilyn Martin, Patricia Gaudet, and Joey Martin. Uncle of Katlyn Chapman, Christopher Marchese, and Haley Chapman. Godfather of Kylen Letulle. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the late Gloria Englander, and the late George Morris. Corey also leaves behind his dearest friends, Kevin Letulle and Mike Richards; the mother of his child, Nicole Alvarez, as well as a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends who will forever love and miss him. Corey enjoyed his life to the fullest and after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, never took a single day for granted. He was a crew boat captain and loved being on the river. When he wasn't working, he took great joy in spending time with his nieces, nephews, and his close-knit group of friends. He was truly one of a kind and will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. Frances Nunez Evans

Frances Nunez Evans, a woman of extraordinary vitality and an exuberant, loving spirit, passed into eternal life on December 19, 2019, at the age of 86. Her life was characterized by the deepest possible commitment to God, her family, and her profession as a nurse. She will be missed by her many friends and loving family. Frances was born on April 17, 1933, in New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise Macour Nunez and August "Geese" Nunez, and was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. She was the wife of her cherished and devoted husband, Lester J. "Captain Swampy" Evans, Sr., for 67 years. She was the mother of three children, Debra Matrana (Tony), Teco Evans (Cheryl), and Tracy Evans (Laurie). Grandmother of six grandchildren, Jeffrey Matrana (Laura), Tiffany Bryan (Anthony), Misty Rodrigue (Chris), Callie Constant (Chuck), Tracey Evans, Jr., and Jamie Evans (Troy). She will also be greatly missed by her 11 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caden, Emmett, Lily, Cullen, Riley, Lainie, Luke, Jude, Tory, and Tristan. Frances is also survived by her brothers, Randy Nunez (Helene), Rudy Nunez (JoAnn), and sisters, Barbara Terrebonne (Al), and Kathleen Bellanger (the late Simon). She was preceded in death by her brothers, Sonny Boy Nunez, and Kenneth "Poogie" Nunez, as well as her sisters, Juanita Clouarte and Dorothy Mones. Frances was very active in St. Bernard Catholic Church in any way needed. She was a Eucharistic Minister and provided guidance and the love of the Lord in the area prisons. She was the recipient of the St. Louis Award and was recognized by St. Bernard Parish for her work with the elderly. After dedicating herself to raising her children, and finally seeing them grown with families of their own, Frances returned to school. She attended Nunez Community College, where she gained the skills necessary to fulfill her calling to serve her community in the field of nursing. During her many years as a nurse, Frances worked at Chalmette Hospital and then for Fernandez Nursing Home, Poydras Manor, and St. Rita Nursing Home. Her compassion and dedication to the sick and elderly were unsurpassed. The Evans family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Passages Home Hospice, Ochsner St. Bernard Hospital, and St. Joseph's Hospice, for the excellent care, love, and compassion shown during Frances's time of need. Kathleen R. Gay passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the age of 70. Beloved wife of Herbert Gay for 51 years. Mother of Meredith Gay Waltemyer (Cory). Daughter of the late Lolita Diliberto and Stephen Russo. Sister of Cynthia R. Falcon (Raymond) and Bonnie B. Mathews (the late John). Grandmother of Mason Calico, Hayden Calico, Easton Waltemyer, and Meadow Waltemyer. Aunt of Raymond “Joey” Falcon, Jr. and Karen F. LeBlanc. She enjoyed cooking, reading and sewing. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of the Westbank for over 50 years. Phyllis "Sissy" Gioe entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the age of 71. She was the loving wife of Gasper Gioe. Beloved mother of Rhonda Tilman and Kaylen Gioe. Step-mother of Benjamin Gioe, Jimmy Gioe, and Stephen Gioe. She was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren, and great-grandmother of three great-grandchildren. Sister of Debbie and Dale. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Frances Holland, and the late William Jackson, and by her siblings, the late Bill, the late Patricia, and the late Lynn. Wilva Nell Jones Gross

Wilva Nell Jones Gross lost her battle against lung cancer on Sunday, December 15, 2019, peacefully at home at the age of 84. Wilva was the loving wife of the late Roy J. Gross, Jr., and a devoted mother of the late Lynda G. Nunez (Anthony), Melanie G. Cannatella (Leon Giorgio), and Roy J. Gross, III (Yevette Robin). Born April 18, 1935 in Scotlandville, LA. to the late Lawrence Lee and Nellie Jones, Wilva was the Grandmother of Derick A. Nunez, Natalie G. Dabdoub (Randy), Kristen A. Gross, and Katelyn G. Ehrhardt (Ryan). Great Grandmother of Dylan E. Nunez, Presley, Charlotte, Regan, and Madeline Dabdoub. Wilva was a lifelong resident of Chalmette, LA and a 1953 graduate of Arabi High School in Arabi, LA. She retired from the State of Louisiana as the Executive Assistant to Senate President Samuel B. Nunez with over 25 years of service. Wilva served in many volunteer organizations such as St. Bernard Volunteers for Family and Community, Suburban Women’s Club, and was one of the founders of the Jaycee Janes for St. Bernard Parish. Wilva loved golfing and was an avid spectator in later years. She traveled the world with her husband RJ, prior to his death. Relatives and friends celebrated her well-lived life with a visitation and funeral mass on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 701 W. James Andrew Hebert

James Andrew Hebert passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the age of 70. He was the lifelong companion of 52 years and beloved husband of Marsha St. Philip Hebert. Loving father of Jeff Hebert (Erica), Scott Hebert (Danielle) and Catherine Lindheim (Ricky). Son of the late Wilbur and Catherine Culotta Hebert. Brother of Ronald Hebert, Gary Hebert and the late Wilbur Hebert Jr. Proud grandfather of Eli Hebert, Luke Hebert, Devin Lindheim and Bella Rose Hebert. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. James was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Slidell, LA. He was a devoted volunteer at the World War II Museum in New Orleans, a graduate and member of the alumni association of U.L., graduate of Chalmette High School class of ’68, member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of Theta Xi fraternity. James truly enjoyed life through his pastimes and pleasures of golfing, woodworking, carpentry, serving as both a coach & umpire and especially spending time with his family and close friends. His love for the New Orleans Saints and his passion for the New York Mets was surpassed only by the love for his grandchildren. James will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, his caring and loving heart, his wonderful sense of humor, his playful sarcasm, contagious laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. He was our pillar of courage and strength and a wonderful example of what it means to care for others. Christopher Licciardi, Jr. passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019 at the age of 73. Christopher was the loving husband of Kathleen Trosclair Licciardi for 54 years. Albert Louis Schell III

Albert Louis Schell III passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of Josephine Di-Carlo Schell for 52 years. Loving father of Rosalie Larson (Keven) and Albert Schell, IV (Theresa). Son of the late Albert Schell, Jr. and Rosalie Tilloy Schell. Proud grandfather of Alyssa Grace Schell and Alayna Marie Schell. Albert was born on July 24, 1932 in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. He was a US Army Veteran and an electrical engineer by trade. He proudly worked with Boeing on the Saturn Rocket Program at the Michoud Facility. He was strong in his faith and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. In 2017, he was awarded the Order of St. Louis medal for his service to his church. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He will be forever remembered as a hard worker who was devoted to his family and will be deeply missed by all of those whose lives he touched. Ralph Roy Acosta

Ralph Roy Acosta passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at 8:15 a.m. at the age of 77. Beloved son of the late Louise Roberts Acosta and Richard Acosta, Jr. Loving brother of Barbara Acosta Perez (the late Ralph), Corby Anthony Acosta Sr. (Janice), and Marlene Acosta Schoenberger (the late Morris). Preceded in death by brothers Johnny August Acosta and Irvin Joseph Acosta, maternal grandparents Catherine Evans Roberts and Robert August Roberts, paternal grandparents Christina Molero Acosta and Richard Acosta, Sr. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and relatives who loved him dearly. He served his country admirably in the United States Air Force 12th TAC Fighter Wing in Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam, where he received the Air Force Commendation Medal and the 1970 Airman of the Year award. He was a native of Delacroix Island, LA, and of Los Islenos heritage. He was retired from the United States Government, Internal Revenue Services as a Computer Specialist. He was a resident of Slidell, LA. and a faithful member of Saint Luke Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA. Gary “Chief” Joseph Bordelon

Gary “Chief” Joseph Bordelon passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the age of 67. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to his wife Doris Schick Bordelon. Loving father of Jeffrey S. Bordelon (Trisha), Justin W. Bordelon (Maggie) and Joelle B. Graham (Ian). Son of the late Wilfred and Audrey Goux Bordelon and brother of the late Billy Ray Bordelon. Gary’s greatest joys were his grandchildren: Callie Bordelon, Adalyn Bordelon, Emily Bordelon, Beau Bordelon, Wyatt Graham and Winston Graham. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many relatives, dear friends and especially his beloved dogs, Brody and Mason. Gary was born in New Orleans and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Marrero, LA after Hurricane Katrina. After serving his country as a member of the Navy, including a tour in Vietnam, Gary proudly enjoyed a 40 year career with the New Orleans Criminal Sheriff’s Office where he held the rank of Chief. Gary dedicated his life to his family, friends, and his work and was passionate about anything sports related, especially football. Some of Gary’s happiest moments were spent coaching and watching his three kids play sports at Rebel Park, working high school football details at Tad Gormley Stadium and watching LSU and Saints football games with family and friends. Gary will always be remembered for his warm and inviting smile, his loyalty and dedication to his family & friends, and his tremendous work ethic. A mountain among men, Gary was a pillar of courage and strength, a leader and mentor who believed in integrity, hard work, and being kind to everyone that he crossed paths with. Gary’s ability to connect with people and make every feel special provided us a wonderful example of what it means to care for others. Gary’s memory will live on forever, as his passion, loyalty, and dedication will eternally guide us through life. Albert was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for his family and friends. Albert will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, his caring and loving spirit and his laughter. His love of fishing, cooking and trips to the casino was surpassed only by the love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a wonderful example of what it means to care for others and will be deeply missed by us all. George Joseph Fried, Jr.

George Joseph Fried, Jr. passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019 at the age of 90. He was the loving father of Debbie, Gary (Clarice), Randy (Rebecca), and Jodi (Al). Grandfather of Garrett (Shannon), Aldea (Rob), Lanae (Louie), Sean, Dustin (Courtney), Clayton, Tyler, and Alfred. Great-grandfather of Leila, Iris, Addison, Lexi, and Cohen. Brother of Gene A. Fried. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, the late Anita Brehm Fried, and by his parents, the late Louise Marquette Fried and the late George J. Fried, Sr. George was a native of New Orleans and a long-time resident of Chalmette. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy, and retired from Murphy Oil Refinery, and was a member of the Saints Touchdown Club. He was much loved, and will forever be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him. Ethel Sigur Lamarque

Ethel Sigur Lamarque passed away peacefully on Christmas Day of 2019 at the age of 100. She was the cherished wife of 63 years to the late Carroll “Billy” Lamarque. Loving mother of Linda Schaumburg (Edward), Arlene Donovan (Paul), Carroll Lamarque Jr. and Carl Lamarque. Daughter of the late Sidney Sigur and Ida Prevost Sigur. Sister of Elaine Ehrhard and the late Lionel Sigur, Frederick Sigur and James Sigur. Proud grandmother of Kristian Schaumburg (Brennan), Justin Schaumburg (Erin), Britton Giardina (John), Jonah Clement, Carroll Lamarque III (Robin), Lauren Romero (Luke), Carl Lamarque Jr. and the late Noah Clement. Great grandmother of Dace & Piper Schaumburg, Shepherd, Christian, Isaac, Oliver & Beau Schaumburg, Ainsley Nunez, Grace, Ian, Gabriel & Francesca Giardina, Tyler & Elijah Clement, Samantha Jensen, Cody, Parker & Addison Lamarque and Levi Romero. Great-great grandmother of Lola Jones. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Ethel was born on January 2, 1919 in New Orleans, LA just after the end of World War I. Her early years were tough and challenging as she grew up through the great depression. She was separated from her husband during World War II, while he proudly served our country in Europe and Ethel dedicated herself to the war effort at home. In 1958 she began teaching in St. Bernard Parish, most notably at Our Lady of Prompt Succor School, until she graduated with her degree from Dominican College. She them went on to teach for over 20 years in Orleans Parish until her retirement. Following her retirement she thoroughly enjoyed volunteering as a literacy teacher and especially loved teaching dance lessons to senior citizens until she was past 80. But her happiest moments were always found when she was surrounded by her family and many friends. She found pleasure in the details of everyday life and took nothing for granted. She will always be remembered for her loyalty and dedication to her family, her unwavering drive, determination and discipline, her great cooking, her love of playing cards, her caring and loving spirit, her laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. She was a wonderful example of what it means to care for others and will be deeply missed by us all. William “Bill” Russell Sr.

William “Bill” Russell passed away on Saturday December 21, 2019. He was the son of the late James Russell, Sr. and the late Rafaella “Viola” Morales. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Latapie Russell and his son, William “Billy” Russell. He is survived by 4 children: John Russell, Laurie Russell Brown, Dorothy H. Russell, and Bon M. Russell. He was the brother of Jack Russell, Joyce R. Frey, Marian R. Kaltenbach, and the late Forrest, Harding, James, Jr., Lillian R. McKelvy Gros, Myrtle R. Evans, and Dorothy R. Alther. Proud grandfather of Randy Russell, Melissa R. Sanspree, Jennifer L. Russell, John D. Russell, Derek L. Brown, Macy E. Cope, Dustin J. Brown and Mali M. Moran. He also had nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was the father-in-law of Mary H. Russell, Susan L. Russell, Louis Brown III, Mavis Dalier, and Stephanie Hoskins. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He proudly served his country in World War II during the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with an honorable discharge. After his discharge from the war, he became a fur dealer and a shrimp dealer with Melerine Seafood. He was also an employee at Ford Motor Company in Arabi, Louisiana. Mr. Russell was a native of St. Bernard Parish. After Hurricane Katrina, he lived his remaining years in Covington, Louisiana. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends he has made during his 94 years of life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held in William’s memory beginning at 11 a.m. He will be laid to eternal rest with his beloved wife Mary in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Yvonne Clark Shelton

Yvonne Clark Shelton passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the age of 83. She was the cherished wife of the late Vernon Shelton. Loving mother of Murphy Serignet, Michelle Gray (Wayne), Denise Trosclair (Matthew), Melissa Mayer (Eric) and the late Cecilia “Susie” Traylor and Shawn Camille Shelton. Sister of the late Teddy, Jeanette, Joe and Spike. Daughter of the late Joseph Indie and Maria Silva. Proud grandmother of M.J., Derrick, Rachel, Justin, Troy, Paula, Wayne Jr., Brandi, Austin, Kayla and Jessie. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her furever friend, Gypsy. Yvonne was born in Hawaii and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. She found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for others. Yvonne will always be remembered for her loyalty and dedication to her family, her caring and loving spirit, her laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by us all. Lena Schifano Martino

Lena Schifano Martino passed away on December 31, 2019, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Mary Schifano, her husband Frank Martino, and her nine brothers and sisters, Angie Maggio, Eva Attardo, Carmella Bivona, Frank, Angelo, Joe, Tony, Fred and Sam Schifano. Lena was born and raised in Hammond, LA, where she lived until getting married. After marriage she moved to New Orleans, LA. She was a homemaker, where she enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Ann Martino Terrell; two grandsons Earl Smith and Shane Terrell (Dymphna); and she was proud great grandmother to Sarah Terrell. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. While living the last 19 years at Metairie Manor, she spent time volunteering in the gift shop, she attended Mass daily, did the reading at Mass and attended the weekly rosary group. Lena always baked cakes for donation to the Metairie Manor annual festival and also the annual St. Joseph’s Day Altar at Metairie Manor. She also participated in groups to make Italian cookies for the Altar. She’ll be fondly remembered for her devout faith and genuine concern for family and friends and remarkable resolve to remain independent. Visitation will be on Friday, January 10, 2020, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA from 11 a.m. until Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA. The family would like to thank the residents and staff of Metairie Manor for their friendship and support through the years. The family would like to give a sincere thank you to Father Bob Massett for all the prayers he has said for her and the blessings he has given to her. The family also wants to especially thank the staff at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice for the loving care provided to Lena Martino and her family.

Bradley Joseph Miller passed away at his home after a battle with cancer on Friday, December 27, 2019 at the age of

60. Beloved son of the late Wilfred Benjamin Miller and Bernice Martinez Miller. Loving brother of Ann Miller Musselman, Kerry Miller Meyer and the late Billy Miller and David Miller. Brother-in-law of Donald Musselman Jr., Johnny Meyer and Debra Miller. Nephew of the late Agnes Martinez and Mary Jane Martinez. Proud uncle of Melissa Landeche (Jed), Stacey Miller, Kelly Kelley (John) and Jessica Deville (Tristan). Great uncle of Alisa Goldsmith, Dylan Williams, Dustin Williams, Cameron Landeche, Carleigh Landeche, Kate Kelley, Jackson Kelley and Hannah Kelley. Cousin of Cindy Savoy, Marsha Martinez, Andre Martinez, A.J. Martinez and Adele Himel. Also survived by his loyal and good friends Todd and Kim LeBlanc. Bradley was born on September 17, 1959 in New Orleans, LA; was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, and a current resident of White Castle, LA for the past 15 years. He worked for many years as a sugar cane field tractor operator. He taught us the importance of family bonds and loyal friends, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all of those whose lives he touched. Jeanette Champagne Nicolay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at the age of 91. She was the cherished wife of 54 years to the late Frederick Jacob Nicolay III. Loving mother of Suzanne Pellegrine (Larry), Sandra Yeadon (Richard) and Michael Nicolay (Kathy). Daughter of the late Alcest Champagne and Suzanne Ford Champagne. Sister of Margie Bucher (Frank), Alder Champagne (the late Jeanette), Mary Ann Lendle (the late Fritz), Kenneth Champagne (Camilla) and the late Stanley Champagne (the late Eunice), Ralph Champagne (the late Myrtie) and William Champagne (Josie). Proud grandmother of Nicole Sensebe (Kevin), Christine Green (Mason), Alison Schroeder (Bobby), Kaitlyn Lotz (Corey), Peter Yeadon (Rachel) and Melanie McClain (David). Great grandmother of Emily Schaubhut, Molly Schroeder, Ella Schroeder, Natalie Lotz and Luke McClain. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Jeanette was born in Boutte, LA and was a longtime resident of Chalmette, LA where she was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Following Hurricane Katrina, Jeanette moved to Nouveau Marc and became an active member of the senior community. She never played a game of cards until she went to Nouveau Marc. After which, if she wasn”t in her apartment, she was deep in a card game. Her 91 years were blessed with family and many close friends. She believed each day was a blessing and found pleasure in caring deeply for others. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by those she touched. Relatives and friends attended a visitation and funeral mass held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. She was laid to eternal rest beside her beloved husband in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
