Ignatius Thomas “Tommy” Riggio
Heaven gained another angel on December 3, 2016 in the name of Ignatius Thomas “Tommy” Riggio at the age of 79. Tommy was born on January 6, 1937 to Salvador Riggio and Mary Marino Riggio Maldonado. Step-son of Peter “Pancho” Maldonado. Tommy was the loving husband of Brenda Smith Riggio for 58 years. Devoted father of Tammy Riggio, Thomas “T.J.” Riggio (Christie) and Todd Riggio (Shannon). Proud grandfather of Dustin, Tommy (Erika), Travis Riggio, Jesse and Julie Morton, Torie Riggio Hinyup (Corey), Taylor and Tessie Riggio. Great grandfather of Tre, Jordan & Hallie Riggio, Allie Morton, Landen Dudoussat, Peyton and Parker Hinyup. Brother of Faye “DeeDee” Sampey (Harold), Lainy Maldonado, Suzanne Imbraguglio (Jed) and Deborah Stansbury (Gus). He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Tommy had been the owner/operator of Diamond Drayage and then Diamond Trucking. He loved being in his truck. If he wasn’t in his truck, he would usually be found under the trucks doing repairs. Tommy had been a member of the St. Bernard Jubilees, Happy Times Squares, Rip & Snort Square Dance Club, Mandeville Seniors and New Orleans Traffic & Transportation Club. Louis Emile Reichert
Louis Emile Reichert entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the age of 94. Beloved son of the late Emile and Mary Dennies Reichert; brother of the late George Reichert, Mary Stevens and Alice Curole. Loving husband of 71 years to the late Joyce Stigler Reichert. He will be sadly missed by his loving daughters, JoAnn Castagnetta Ponthier (Wayne), Deborah Piattoly Reeves (Ronnie) and Nadine Couture (George). Proud grandfather of Henry Castagnetta, Tavis Piattoly (Lindsey), Chad Couture, Aimee Couture, Aaron Couture and the late Craig Castagnetta. Loving great grandfather of Brenden, Brandon, Henry Castagnetta III, (Kayla), Nicholas Losch, Malorie Nunez, Grace Piattoly and Bria Raimer. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Louis was a resident of Slidell, LA for the past 16 years and 43 years in St. Bernard Parish. He was the founder and owner of Reichert’s Family Shoe Store. He retired from NOPD and as a Major with the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office. Also retired Justice of the Peace in St. Bernard Parish. Louis was past president of Carolyn Park Civic Association & Boosters Club, Optimus Club for Boys, Lifetime member of International Narcotic Association, Fort Polk Volunteer Fire Department, Chalmette Moose Lodge, Lexington Place Civic Association, Friends of Harmony Lodge #58, F&AM Metairie, LA. He was a Golden Gloves AAU Catholic Amateur Boxer in his younger years and member of the Fraternal Order of Police. In 1980, Retired Major Reichert introduced the first Women’s Home and Street Defense Course in St. Bernard Parish. Eventually men were also included at the request of the men. He received numerous invitations to teach this course throughout the state of LA, such as Delgado Community College, St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office, Terrebonne Sheriff’s Office, Gonzales Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department and Criminal Sheriff’s Office in New Orleans. This school received national and international recognition for his method of teaching. It aired on TV and radio around New Orleans and Canadian Broadcasting Network flew down and filmed the entire course. It was broadcast throughout Canada. Relatives, friends, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, Justice of the Peace & Constables Association and New Orleans Police Department attended a visitation held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Sunday, December 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a funeral service in his memory beginning afterward. Bryan Keith Gilmore, Sr. passed away Monday morning, November 28, 2016, at his residence in Braithwaite, LA, at the age of 56. He was born in New Orleans, spent his childhood in St. Bernard Parish, and for the past 30 years lived his life in Braithwaite, LA. Bryan loved hunting and fishing the bayous in Plaquemines Parish. He was the founder of the Watering Hole and G&H hunting club. Loving husband to Joy Lange Gilmore for 30 years. Devoted father to Bryan Gilmore Jr (Tiffany) and Brooke Gilmore (Kevin). Everiste “Bill” Arsenaux passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Slidell, LA at the age of 88. He was born on January 10, 1928 in New Orleans, LA. He is the beloved husband of Lizette Falco Arsenaux for 44 years and the late Thelma McCue Arsenaux for 17 years. Loving father of William (Billy) Arsenaux (Janice). Son of the late Beverly and Jeanette Lee Saleg Arsenaux. Brother of the late Eva Schellinger (Bob) and Beverly Arsenaux, Jr. (Bertha). Step-Brother of the late Robert (Sailor) Saleg (Olga), William Russell Saleg (Marie), and Ida Saleg Waller (Dave). Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Arsenaux was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, serving on both a LST Minesweeper and the USS Birmingham. He was an avid fisherman, a softball and baseball enthusiast, and enjoyed old music and dancing. He was also a passionate and loyal New Orleans Saints fan. Napoleon C. Lopez, Sr.
Napoleon C. Lopez, Sr., was born in Managua, Nicaragua on November 29, 1929 and passed away at the age of 87. He proudly became a naturalized American citizen in 1965 and resided in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was employed at Latin American Distributors for thirty years as the company’s general manager and accountant. In Managua, he obtained his CPA license from Escuela Comercial Fiscal in 1947. In the United States, he obtained his degrees in accounting and management from Dun & Bradstreet in 1967 and from Soulé College in 1970. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 23 years, Elia Lopez and by his parents Francisco and Josefa Lopez. He is survived by four children: Son, Cesar E. Lopez (Miriam) and their children: Ivan, Cathy, Anna, and Nelson; Son, Joseph C. Lopez, Sr. (Debra) and their children: Joyce Morin Lopez (Rob) and her children: Justin and Peyton; Jena Sullivan (Guy) and her children Alexa and Guy Jr.; Joseph C. Lopez Jr., Jessica Lopez (Corey), and Joshua Joseph-Aaron Lopez Sr. and his children Joshua Jr. and Axton; Daughter, Elia M. Lopez (Fernando) and her children: Janine E. Theriot (Stephen) and their children: Lily and Connor, Jason D. Espinal and his children: Jasmin, Lisette, Javier, L’Oreal, and Yale; and Raul A. Daniel Francis Landry
Daniel Francis Landry left this world unexpectedly at the age of 66. He was born in New Orleans, LA, and raised in Arabi, St. Bernard Parish. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olide Joseph Landry and Ethel Grob Landry. Daniel graduated from Holy Cross High School and then went on to Louisiana State University to pursue a Bachelor’s and Master of Business Administration in Management. He also served in the Louisiana Air National Guard and went on to have a successful career in sales within the computer and telecommunications industry. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Andrea; his sons Christopher and Dayton; his daughter Melissa Stringer (Jeff); and granddaughter Landry Olivia Stringer, his namesake. He is also survived by his four older brothers: Larry, Nelson, Harold and Gerald, and their families. A celebration of Daniel’s life was held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Richardson East Church of Christ. Victor Sylvester Lala passed peacefully on Monday afternoon, December 12, 2016 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 90. He was born in New Orleans, LA, to the late Anthony and Mamie Corollo Lala. Victor was a resident of Chalmette for the last 44 years. He was an automobile mechanic with his own Service Station (Citgo) from 1960 to 1975. He was a proud Navy Veteran that served in World War II on a minesweeper ship, and during the Korean Conflict. Former husband of Mary Menant Lala. Father of Victor R. Lala and his wife Lynn, Paul H. Lala and his wife (Janet”Johnnie”), Marianna Lala DePriest and Gregory Lala and his wife Veronica. Grandfather of seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one step-great grandchild, one great-great grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by one sister, Marie Lala Castillion and three brothers, Dominick ”Brother” Lala, Anthony Lala and Raymond Lala. Victor Joseph Michon, Jr., passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at his home in Chalmette, LA, at the age of 62. Beloved and devoted husband of Phyllis “Phe” Nastasi Michon for 44 years. He was a former Longshoreman for T. Smith and Sons of New Orleans. He entered into fast food management and later achieved his lifelong dream of owning and operating Big Vic’s Restaurant in Chalmette. Robert “Bob” Henry Cripple passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at the age of 71. He was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Chalmette, LA until Hurricane Katrina, in 2005. Following the hurricane, he resided in Spring, TX, for 11 years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Loretta H. Cripple and his four children, Cherrie’ Otillio (Danny), Robert Cripple (Kristin), Ann Cripple and Jay Cripple (Sandra). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and two brothers, Brian and Kenneth Cripple. He was preceded in death by his parents John Cripple and Thelma Arnold Cripple, and his brother Lloyd Cripple. He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and served his country with the utmost pride and respect. Bob worked in the oil industry until his retirement in 2012. He enjoyed smoking a good cigar, riding his motorcycle when he was able and was an avid outdoorsman. In celebration of Bob’s life we ask that you light up, throttle up or visit the shooting range in his honor. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Winston “Skeet” Lawrence Cantrell Sr. went to be with his Lord Thursday, December 8, 2016 at his home in Ventress, LA, at the age of 75. He was born in New Orleans, raised in Violet and lived in Chalmette until Hurricane Katrina. Winston worked and retired from the St. Bernard Parish Sewerage and Water Board. Winston is also survived by his loving wife of 31 years Karen Rockvoan Cantrell of Ventress, La; daughters Angel Cantrell Marino of St. Bernard, La and Jenny Arieux Clement and husband Gavin of Ventress, La; grandson Robert Thoulion, Jr. of St. Bernard, granddaughters Layla Mae and Harper Ann Clement of Ventress, La; and great-grandson Kody Lawrence Thoulion of St. Bernard; brother Walter Cantrell and wife Rosie; sisters Phyllis Wellmeyer and Carolyn Perez; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Gene Lawrence Brockhaus, Sr., of Picayune, MS, formerly of St. Bernard Parish, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at the age of 68. A native of New Orleans, LA, he moved to St. Bernard Parish in March of 1970. Gene worked at Chalmette Meat Packing Company from 1976 to 2005. He married Suzanne Seymour in May of 1969, and they had three sons. He was a loving, hardworking father who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Gene moved to Picayune, MS, after Hurricane Katrina. He was also a loving caregiver to his mother from a young age for many years. His joys were horseback riding and cooking. Gene was a member of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Brockhaus, Sr. and Ruby Petifils Brockhaus; his sisters, Ruby “Peaches” Brockhaus Duhe and Ada Brockhaus White; and his brothers, Louis Brockhaus, Jr. and Theodore Brockhaus. eft to cherish his memory are his sons, Gene (Linda “Terri”) Brockhaus, Jr., Jonathan (Norma) Brockhaus, Sr., and Joshua (Jennifer) Brockhaus, Sr.; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Jr., Matthew, Jade, Justin, Joshua, and Hunter Brockhaus; one great-granddaughter, Lily Anne Brockhaus; his niece, Ruby Margaret Plunkett Corley; and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral services were held on Friday, December 9, 2016, at 6 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel. Father Joseph Trinh officiated the service.
