Shawn Michael Rogers

Shawn Michael Rogers, beloved husband and father; entered the eternal arms of Jesus and Mary in Paradise on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the age of 62. He was the loving husband of Cynthia Artus Rogers, and the devoted father of two daughters; Shawntel Carolyn Rogers (Thomas) and Brandy Jean Rogers. Shawn was preceded in death by his parents, the late James O. Rogers and the late Carolyn Wallace Rogers, and by his two brothers, the late Gerard Anthony Rogers (Terri) and the late Stephen P. Rogers. His surviving siblings include James Brent Rogers (Patricia), Katherine Rogers Sharp (Rob), Robert B. Rogers, and Elise Rogers Schmoorkoff (John), and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind his loving companion dogs Toby, Snickers, and his pet rabbit, Summer. Shawn attended Chalmette High School, then joined the United States Navy. He then returned home, worked in Security, and eventually earned a diploma in Carpentry and A/C Refrigeration, where he worked until his illness prevented him from working. Shawn was an all-around happy-go-lucky guy; always joking. He had an avid love for music, particularly the Beatles and Buddy Holly, and he had an extensive record collection. He was also a diehard Saints and Tulane green wave fan (he was the #1 Bestest Saints Fan ever). On a more serious note, Shawn had an unending love and devotion for our Lord Jesus and Mary. He was a CCD teacher and a church usher for OLPS for several years. He often made sacrifices; especially pain and suffering, offering it up for the Holy Souls of Purgatory. Any time a favor was asked of him, he promptly did it. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. “Remember me with smiles and laughter; for that’s the way I’ll remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don’t remember me at all.” Relatives, friends, and employees of heart of hospice attended a gathering and memorial mass held in his memory at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, on Saturday, December 5, 2020. In lieu of flowers, masses preferred or donations to the American Heart Association.

Mark Michael Hannan

Mark Michael Hannan bravely fought and unfortunately lost his battle with cancer on December 11, 2020, surrounded by family at his home in Mandeville, LA; at the age of 58. He was born on January 26, 1962, to Zelda Zettwoch Hannan and Edward Maxwell Hannan, Sr. He was born in New Orleans, LA, the youngest of five children. Mark’s father passed away when he was only two years old, and although he never had a chance to know his own father, he managed to be the best husband and Dad his wife and three sons could have ever asked for. Mark grew up in Chalmette, LA, on Charles Drive, just down the street from St. Mark’s Church. He learned the value of hard work from his mother, experiencing the importance of family and finding true passion as a fisherman and duck hunter with his brothers just over the Forty Arpent Canal levee. He found love in the arms of his wife, and they built a home together in Meraux, LA, in Lexington Place Subdivision and filled it with countless memories with their three sons. When Hurricane Katrina overtopped that very levee he hunted across, Mark and his family lost every material thing they owned but this was no matter to him. Like many others he relocated to the Northshore, and while he was in a new home with none of his old belongings, he retained the same values, passion, love, and memories he and his family had built over the years. He never missed an opportunity to share his passion of duck hunting, and countless family members and friends can attest to his skills in a blind, where he often exhibited one of his other greatest strengths: telling a good story. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Maxwell Hannan, Sr. and Zelda Zettwoch Hannan, his uncle Louis “LD” Zettwoch, and his brother-in-law James Moore. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years Karen Francke Hannan, and his three sons Connor, Parker, and Nicholas Hannan. He is also survived by his uncle James Campbell, aunt Jeanne “Kay” Tardo, sister Lynne Marie Moore and his brothers Edward (Rita), Jack (Frances), and Timothy Hannan (Laverne), as well as many loving in-laws, sixteen nieces and nephews, and several bag limits of great-nieces and nephews. Mark finished his career as the City Dispatch Supervisor at AAA Cooper Transportation where he worked for 31 years, working as hard as he could to provide his family with a wonderful life. And despite his long hours and commute, he would make it to every one of his sons’ sports games, and band concerts and competitions. He was the definition of a selfless husband and father who was so immensely proud of his sons. When Mark was not working, you could often find him fishing and hunting ducks and geese with his sons, relatives and friends somewhere between Lake Lery and Fishing Smack Bay. Mark always said, “Keep it simple.” All he needed was a happy family, a great hunt, a limit of reds, and a beer with a good story. He valued a simple life and while planning his funeral, his requests were simple; he wanted ‘Simple Man’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd to be played at his funeral, and finally he wanted to be buried in a cypress casket made by the monks of St. Joseph’s Abbey, as a reminder of the marsh and swamp where he spent so many mornings and evenings hunting and fishing with the ones he loved. Relatives and friends attended the visitation and funeral service at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mark’s name to The St. Tammany Hospital Foundation www.sthfoundation.org/funding), or The CHARGE Syndrome Foundation (https://www.chargesyndrome.org/get-involved/ donate/tribute-gift-donations/, or The National MPS Society at https://mpssociety.org/give/.
