Joseph Blaise, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at his residence at the age of 87. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Verrett, Louisiana, where he served as a faithful and dedicated Usher until his health begin to declined. Beloved son of the late Louis Blaise, Sr. and Eva Carter. Loving husband of the late Gladys McFarland. Father of Joseph Jr, and Bryan Blaise, Gloria Hickerson, Milton Luter, Jacqueline Moore and Barbara Lyons. Brother of Ervin Sr., Louis, Nathan, Lodgia, and Yvette Blaise, Anita Bryan (Julius), Tricianita Smith (Randy), and the late Ernest, Burrnell, Evelyn and Geraldine Carter. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and good friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also Pastors, Officers, and Members of First Baptist Church of Verrett, LA and all neighboring churches of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes, staff and employees of Brown Velvet and AJ Produce Companies were all invited to attend the funeral service at First Baptist Church of Verrett, Louisiana on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Ambrose Lawrence “Larry” Bonee, Jr.
Ambrose Lawrence “Larry” Bonee Jr. entered into the heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the age of 71. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Rosa Weber Bonee, step-son, Charles Weber, and several neighbors. He is survived by his grandson, Sean Michael Cochran, whom he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Schneider; father, Ambrose L. Bonee, Sr.; sister, Janet Bonee; daughter, Angela Bonee; and son, Larry Bonee. He was a great man and he was a great dancer. Just ask his friends in Chalmette, LA., and Abbeville, LA. He was also a member of the Arabi Social Society Club for many years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him. A private memorial service will be at a later date.
Joycelyn Latour Broggi
Joycelyn Latour Broggi passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the age of 79, surrounded by her family. She was married to the love of her life John Broggi for the last 58 years. She was the loving mother of Joy Ann Broggi, Jeannine Broggi Armstrong (Kenny) and Julie Broggi Boyd (Dean). She was the grandmother of Kenny Armstrong, Jr. (Lisa), Katie Faciane (Aaron), Renee Armstrong, Adam Boyd and Emma Boyd. She was the great grandmother of Makenzie and Max Armstrong and Lily and Rex Faciane. Sister of Emile Latour. Preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Kay Broggi; her parents, Louise and Paul Latour; and a sister, Priscilla Latour. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and her two oldest high school friends, Jackie Firmin and Muriel Kazik. Joycelyn was a long time resident of Chalmette until Hurricane Katrina and a current resident of Covington. She was a graduate of Scared Heart High School and was a member of VFW Drum and Bugle Corps. She was an active member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church and Prince of Peace Church. Joycelyn was one of a kind, her door was always open where she enjoyed feeding everyone. She loved a good dessert, a good drink and a great story. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, P.A.'s and N.P.'s at Ochsner Main Campus Neuro-ICU for the great care that was given to Joycelyn. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, on Thursday, August 4, 2016, followed by a mass in the Chapel. Tommy Carlino passed away at his home on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the age of 73. He was the cherished husband of the late Barbara Kersh Carlino. Loving father of Donna C. Goenner (Tom) and Tommy Carlino. Son of the late Thomas Carlino and Kathey Harrison. Brother of Frank Carlino (Nancy). Brother-in-law of Patsy Kersh. Proud grandfather of Kaycie Marie Woitha.Tommy will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his family and friends. Private funeral services were held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA. He was laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
Father Danilo C. Digal
Father Digal, who retired in 2014, died on July 20, 2016 in the Philippines at the age of 64. Father Digal was born in Tagbilaran, Bohol province in the Philippines on July 21, 1951. His elementary education was at Sevilla Elementary School in Tagbilaran. He also attended Divine Word College and Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary there. He received his philosophy and theology education at San Carlos Major Seminary in Cebu City, Cebu province in the Philippines. Father Digal was ordained a priest on April 10, 1978, in Surigao City, Surigao province in the Philippines, and was incardinated into the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1993. He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Benilde Catholic Church in Metairie, Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church in Marrero, and St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Metairie. His pastorates were at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Kenner, Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Harvey, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chalmette, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in New Orleans, until he retired in 2014. In addition to his pastoral assignments in the archdiocese, Father Digal also served as the Metropolitan Tribunal Defender of the Bond, Coordinator of Filipino Catholic Ministry for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and Dean of the St. Bernard Deanery. Father Digal was living in Surigao City, in the Philippines, at the time of his death. A Memorial Mass for Father Danilo C. Digal, the former pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Parish in Chalmette, will be celebrated Saturday, August 6 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chalmette, LA by Archbishop Gregory Aymond.
Walter Leon Hodges, Sr.
Walter Leon Hodges, Sr. passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the age of 88. He was the cherished husband of Virginia Brown Hodges for 50 years. Loving father of John Paul Hodges, Mark Peter Hodges, Margaret H. Frazier (Richard) and Walter L. Hodges Jr. (Angie). Son of the late Cheatham E. and Marie Smith Hodges. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters. Walter was a decorated United States Navy Veteran and proudly served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. His service (Vessels and Stations) included U.S. Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, IL; U.S. Naval Hospital, Corpus Christi, TX; Third Marine Brigade; First Marine Division; First Provisional Casual Battalion, Force Troops, FMF, Pacific 1st Separate Surgical Company, FMF, Camp Pendleton, CA. Walter received many medals including the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Silver Star Medal, Commendation Ribbon with Combat “V” and Korean Service Ribbon. He was honorably discharged with a rank of Hospital Corpsman Second Class. Walter was a BTJ Pipefitter and a member of UA Local 60 Plumbers and Steamfitters. He retired after 44 years of service. Walter was very generous with his time and volunteered at the Veterans Affairs Administration for many years. Walter will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his friends and family. Relatives and friends were invited to attend a visitation held at Mary Queen Of Vietnam Catholic Church, 14001 Dwyer Blvd., LA on Monday, August 1, 2016. Military honors followed. Daryl Paul Ricard passed away at the age of 63 on July 28, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Gaetana "Gae" Priola Ricard, his devoted children; Amy Alfonso and her husband Steve, Stacy Ricard Dardar, Daryl Ricard, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, and his adored grandchildren; Taylor, Trey, Ally, Avery, Ella, Grace, Lane, John Charles, Brooks and Ryder. Brother of Cindy Pierce, Debbie Cary, Brenda Iles, Mark Ricard, Lorrie Frolich and Steve Ricard. Daryl was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, yet resided most of his life in Chalmette, Louisiana. He spent a majority of his career working in the maritime industry. On Monday, July 25, 2016, we prayed for a merciful transition, and we believe that Jesus came, took Thais Antoine Schick by the hand, and led her home at the age of 77. She was the beloved wife of Philip E. Schick, Jr. for 62 years. Loving mother of Thais Ann Schick Faust (the late Terry Faust), Doris Schick Bordelon (Gary Bordelon), Scott P. Schick, Laurie Schick Myers (Frank Myers), and William P. Schick (Shannel-Fiance). Daughter of the late William Antoine and Annie Arthur Antoine. Sister of Deanna Antoine Nash (Donald Nash). Beloved Mamaia of Ryan Faust (Jessica), Nathan Faust, Rachel Schulz (Kenny), Jeffrey Bordelon (Trisha), Justin Bordelon (Maggie), Joelle Graham (Ian), Matthew Myers, Victoria Myers, our Eternal Valentine Marissa Gabrielle Myers, and Harmony Clayton. Great Mamaia of Callie, Alyssa, Amelia, Noah, Alaina, Madilyn, Adalyn, Emily, and Wyatt. Also survived by her lifelong friend, Carmella Melerine, her beloved puppy Rosie, and a host of family and friends.
