Henry A. Gourgues, Sr., a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Riverbend Nursing Home in Belle Chasse, LA at the age of 100. Beloved husband of the late Rosamond D. Gourgues for 79 years. Loving father of Claire G. Hoffmann (Van) and Henry A. Gourgues, Jr. (Judy). Grandfather of Kathryn H. Noland (Randal), Cynthia H. Boyer (Chris), Steven M. Gourgues (Melissa), Russell M. Gourgues (Dawn), and Brian M. Gourgues (Stefanie). Great grandfather of Brittani N. Keegan (Thomas), Randi Lyn Noland, Christopher Boyer, Lauren, Rebecca, Sarah, Jack, Abigail, Andrew, and Emma Gourgues. Brother of the late Louis, Charles, and William Gourgues. Mr. Gourgues was a Sheet Metal Fabricator/ Leaderman throughout his life, most notably serving during World War II where he worked for Higgins Shipyard in New Orleans, LA. From his youth, Mr. Gourgues was a member of several Dixieland Jazz Bands and was a proud member of The Swingsters in the 1950’s. Cecelia Lamonte Hoffman “CeCe” passed away surrounded by her children on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the age of 62. Daughter of the late Nace Lamonte and Pauline Lafrance Lamonte. Sister of Josie Cooper, Octavia Dibuono, Rosemarie Labrano, Nace Lamonte, and the late Alice Smith, Diane Lamonte and Carmella Petitfils. Beloved wife of the late Alcie Hoffman, Sr. Loving mother of Theresa Hoffman (Tony), Alcie Hoffman, Jr., Kevin Hoffman (Kellie), and Penny Schallenberg (Glenn). Grandmother of Logan, Spencer, Donovan, Olivia, Kylee, Lillie, Nate, Shelby, and Evan. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A native of New Orleans and a current resident of St. Bernard, LA, she was very proud to be a resident and parishioner of St. Maurice Church, New Orleans, LA. John J. Coble
John J. Coble passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 after a two and a half year battle with brain cancer at the age of 58. He was the cherished husband of Janeen Coble for 37 years. Loving father of his two beautiful daughters Christina Coble and Jacqueline Coble LeBlanc (David). Son of Annemarie Coble and the late John Neville Coble. Brother of Peter Coble (Michelle), Robert Coble Sr. (Gail), and Joseph Coble (Shannon). Proud grandfather of Layla Marie LeBlanc and Amelia Grace LeBlanc. Lifelong friend of Schaffer Barclay (Ellen). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. John was born on May 27, 1958 in Lakewood, New Jersey to military parents. For most of his life he was a resident of St. Bernard Parish and a current resident Tomball, Texas. John began his career as an electrician and went on to become a certified welder, owning his own welding company, Blue Arc Welding in 1997 which subcontracted to Versabar, Inc. John will forever be remembered as a courageous brain cancer fighter. Even while fighting for his own life he encouraged other brain tumor warriors to continue the fight. He became a yoga and health food enthusiast, even obtaining a Yoga Instructor Certification in January 2016. Over the last 2 years he walked the halls of MD Anderson handing out Jesus plaques to cancer survivors and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX and Canon Hospice – Mississippi Gulfcoast, for the care they provided. Bertin B. “Bert” Esteves, Jr.
Bertin B. “Bert” Esteves, Jr passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the age of 84. Beloved father of Bertin B. Esteves, III, Michele Thevenot (Bobby), Angele Esteves, Ramon Estevez, Maia Settle Norah (Joe) and the late Bret V. Esteves. Brother of August Esteves (Susie) and the late Lillian Ledet (Charles). Son of the late Bertin B. Esteves, Sr. and Eleanor Taaffe Esteves. Also survived by his dear friend, Dot Benge and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bert served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the oldest and most prestigious art academy in the United States. After graduation, he joined the corporate staff of the Philadelphia Museum of Art Conservation Lab as Assistant Conservator. He received many awards during his career including the Cresson Traveling Scholarship that enabled him to travel extensively throughout 7 European Countries. Bert was a retired Art Conservator, a popular and accomplished Jackson Square artist and a New Orleans Tour Guide with the Friends of the Cabildo and Haunted History Tours for many years. He was a member of the Los Islenos Heritage and Cultural Society, a past Board Member, a regular Docent at the Isleno Museum and a Co-Donor of the Esteves House at the Isleno Village, a member of the New Orleans Herb Society, the National Rifle Association, a Ducks Unlimited Sponsor, a member of the New Orleans Museum of Art and Co-Founder of the St. Bernard Art Guild. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.. A mass of christian burial will be held in the chapel at 12 p.m.. Raymond Shawn Hendon
Raymond Shawn Hendon passed away from ARDS (a complication from lung cancer surgery) on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the age of 51. He is survived by his husband Keith Napolitano which he married on August 14, 2015 after 15 wonderful years together. Shawn is survived by his brother Kirk Hendon and wife Kathy of Groves, TX, his sister Suzanne Young and husband David of Houston, TX, his brother Tim Hendon of Austin, TX and his stepfather Ora Oubre of Port Arthur, TX. He is also survived by his children; Amanda Quinn, Logan Hendon and Mason Hendon. Shawn is preceded in death by his parents Reginald Hendon and Margaret Hendon Oubre, his brother Gene Hendon and many aunts, uncles and grandparents. Shawn was born on December 4, 1964 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur, TX. and was a 1983 graduate of Bishop Byrne High School. He went on to attend Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. Shawn was an employee of Walmart for 10 years and in his last position he was Co-Manager of the Tchoupitoulas Store. Shawn absolutely loved to cook and entertain. His home was filled with friends constantly enjoying his incredible meals and vibrant personality. To know Shawn was to love him. To many he was referred to as “Sunshine”. Shawn never met a stranger. He loved deeply, he was compassionate and kind to everyone he met. His death leaves a loss deeply in all of our hearts. He grieved the loss of his Mama so very deeply and is now reunited with her. Shawn will be forever remembered and missed by his friends and family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass August 27, 2016 at 1 p.m. to be held at Our Lady Of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA.
