On October 27, 2018, Charles Murphy Leroux passed from this life at home in the presence of his loved ones. He was born by a midwife in his home in New Orleans and he died in his daughter’s home in Richmond, Texas. He was retired from Lumber Importer’s Service Co. in Chalmette, LA. He was the oldest of five siblings, Ret. Lt. Col. Francis Leroux (deceased), Raymond Leroux (deceased), Mary Lee Leroux George (deceased), and Kathleen Leroux Willoz. Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Audrey Pittman Leroux of 71 years of marriage. His daughters Mary Jo Leroux Barr, Denise Leroux Clarke (Bob Clarke), Charlette Leroux Fiorella; and his sons Charles Michael Leroux (Cindy) and William Thomas Leroux. He was the grandfather of David M. Barr, Douglas E. Barr, Scott R. Barr, the late Jonathan Berger, Jodi Berger Cardoso and Carly Berger Buhler. He was the great-grandfather of Alexis Barr, Patrick Barr, Graeme Barr, Audrey Cardoso, Phoenix Cardoso, Finley Buhler, Eli Buhler, and Reese Buhler. Services under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home was held Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd, Metairie, LA 70005. Carol Sylvera Lanclos, a native and lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 2, 2018, in her home while surrounded by her family at the age of 75. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph C. Lanclos, Sr.; son Joseph C. Lanclos, Jr.; two daughters, Chris Tarver (Floyd), Bobbie Babin (Jason); her four loving grandchildren; Kayla, Floyd (F.J.), Seth and Chloe; one great-grandchild, Isaiah. She was also survived by 2 brothers; Marc and Craig Sylvera; along with her niece and caregiver, Roxanne Pichon. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Carmen Sylvera; brothers, Joseph L. and Tommy Sylvera; sisters, Gay Maxwell and Betty Nunez. Carol found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for others. She enjoyed a long career with the St. Bernard Parish School Board and retired as a cafeteria manager. In her final years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Council on Aging. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Gwen Bagneris Janssen died on November 1, 2018 after a long illness at the age of 92. Gwen was the daughter of Louis “Buster” and Yvonne Fos Bagneris. She is survived by her son, Irvin J.G. “Rusty” Janssen (Lisa) and her daughter Pamela Janssen. Gwen was born in Arabi. Although she lived in Metairie for many years, she always considered Arabi as home. She attended Holy Child Jesus Academy on St. Maurice Avenue by walking through Jackson Barracks every day. She later attended Holy Angels High School. Gwen was also an educator in St. Bernard Parish. She began working as a substitute teacher up and down the Parish and then became a classroom teacher after getting her Bachelors degree in education from Dominican College. She taught at Meraux Elementary School for many years. She then continued her education receiving a Masters degree from Loyola University. She ended her teaching career as the supervisor for the Title One reading program throughout the school system. Gwen was a founding member of the Suburban Women’s Club in St. Bernard Parish, which is still active 50 years later. She would want to thank Darlene Johnson and the Quality Care Group for years of good care. Hervey William “Bill” Huxen, a native of New Orleans, long-time resident of Chalmette and resident of Geismar, LA passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the age of 78. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol Edwards Huxen, daughter Lisa H. Songné (Jeremy), son Kenneth W. Huxen, and grandsons Ivan, Liam and Owen Songné. Also survived by his sister Betty H. Gagliano (Sherwood) and brother Robert D. Huxen (Jewell). He was preceded in death by his parents Hervey and Marguerite Conti Huxen and his infant son, David W. Huxen. Bill graduated from Alcée Fortier Senior High School in 1959 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from LSU-Baton Rouge in 1964. He worked for over 20 years for the U.S. Space Program with Boeing and Martin Marietta/Lockheed at the Michoud facility in New Orleans. He loved model railroading, model planes and MOPAR muscle cars. Model trains & LSU were his lifelong passions. Bill loved good food, good friends and, most of all, his family. Constance Marie George entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Harry Joseph George, Jr., and Dorothy Mae Singleton George. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Harvey, LA. She was a member of Regular Baptist Church, Gretna LA., for many years. In 2008, she placed her membership at Second Bethlehem Baptist Church and served diligently under the leadership of her son, Pastor Travis A. George. She was the mother of the church, a devoted choir member, bible study member and vacation bible school member until her health declined. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School of Marrero, LA., class of 1963. She also received a degree in Paralegal Studies from Philips Jr. College. She was a retired employee by Weiser Security Inc., at Chalmette Refining. She was a devoted volunteer at Estelle Community Center in Marrero, LA. Bruce Howard Gaudet Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the age of 63. Beloved husband of Karen Gaeta Gaudet for 44 years. Loving father of Bruce Gaudet Jr. and Melissa Gaudet. Father-in-law of Wendy Gaudet. Son of Henry Gaudet and Edwina Salvant Gaudet. Brother of Jeffrey Gaudet, Matthew Gaudet and the late Michael Gaudet. Proud grandfather of Brandon Gaudet (Kristian), Devyn Gaudet (Chaz) and Destiny Gaudet. Also survived by his Godchild Chad Conzonere. Bruce was born on July 13, 1955 and was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. Bruce was a valued employee for 18 years at Val’s Plumbing (Springer). He was a master plumber for Buck Kreihs where he retired after 35 years of dedicated service. He truly enjoyed his work and the people he worked with. Bruce was very intelligent, mechanical and he was able to fix almost anything. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, making crab nets and being on his boat. Bruce was also an avid New Orleans Saints fan, and he especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be forever remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Natalie Lirette Chatelain passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the age of 70. She was the wife of the late Percy Joseph Chatelain. James Robert “Jim” Bickford
James Robert “Jim” Bickford, a long-time resident of Chalmette, passed away on October 23, 2018 at the age of 73. He is survived by loving sisters, Rosemary Bickford (Robert Muse) and Kathleen Bickford Hodgins (James), nieces, Rainey Muse and Olivia Hodgins, and nephew, Ryan Hodgins, as well as many cousins and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James J. Bickford and Gloria Buras Bickford. Jim was a man of many names. Affectionately known as “Biggie” by his friends, “Coach B” by his student athletes, and “Big Chief” by the Owl Fun Camp kids, and “Jay” by family members. He was born in New Orleans on April 5, 1945 and became a lifelong resident of Chalmette at the age of 9. He graduated from Chalmette High School in 1963 and attended Southeastern Louisiana University. Jim later transferred to Northeast Louisiana State College where he received a B.A. in Journalism. He returned to St. Bernard Parish before receiving a Master’s degree in 1978 in Education Media from Loyola University in New Orleans. In 1974, he became a teacher at CHS in English, Geography, History, and various other subjects. Jim’s love of sports was unmatched. He began keeping statistics in high school and continued for over 50 years. He was the Chalmette sports reporter and worked with local sports writers, calling in game statistics and assisting with historical information on CHS sports. He coached five Track and Field State Champions, including one who participated in the Olympic Trials, and many other regional and district champions. For many years he announced football and basketball games at Chalmette. He also served as an announcer for the Junior Olympics, SEC Conference, Sunbelt Conference, LSU Track & Field Meets, and various other sporting events. The Jim Bickford Invitational Track Meet at CHS was named in his honor. He was inducted into the LSU Track and Field Officials Association Hall of Fame in 2008 and the St. Bernard Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. Jim was an avid photographer and traveler. His travels took him to many places, including Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Romania, and Costa Rica. Although he never married or had children of his own, family was very important to him. He became a huge influence to his nephew and was the biggest supporter of his nieces’ interests. Special thanks to Robert Muse and James Hodgins for their companionship and helpfulness in recent years. Also, thanks to Dr. Ramee and Ochsner Hospital Jefferson, Ochsner Baptist, Bridgepoint Acute Care, Dr. Samant and the ICU Department at East Jefferson General Hospital, and Dr. Hyde of Louisiana Cardiology in Baton Rouge. The James Bickford Scholarship Fund is being established in his memory. It will be awarded each year to one graduating Chalmette High School Track and Field athlete. George E. Boesch, Jr., of Mandeville, formerly of Chalmette, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the age of 83. He was born on September 2, 1935 in New Orleans, LA to George E. It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the family of Marcus Joseph Casbon, Jr. announces his passing after many medical conditions and complications, on November 4, 2018, at the age of 62. Born in Bogalusa, LA on March 7, 1956, he was a resident of Chalmette, LA. He was a longshoreman and was a member of Local 3000. Brian Jay Curtis passed away on October 21, 2018 at 4:05 a.m. at St. Bernard Parish Hospital at the age of 56. He was the loving father of Jennie Secrest (Harvey), Irvin Secrest, Chad Jacobsen and Kimberly. Grandfather of Hope Morales, Jurzie Roberts, Raquel Guidry and Serenity Dalton. Pamela Elizabeth Wegener Griffith passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the age of 50. Pam is preceded in death by her true love and husband Brian Timothy Griffith; parents Edward Charles Wegener and Eleanor Marie Woodruff Wegener; stepmother Sandra Lee Sanders Wegener and niece Allison Renee Tusa. Andrew Joseph Gunn passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the age of 28. Beloved son of Daniel Gunn and Crystal Ayo Gunn. Grandson of the late Edwin Joseph Gunn Jr. and Mary Louise Perez Gunn & Warren Joseph Ayo Sr. and June Mary Scholl Ayo. He is also survived by the love of his life Kelly O’Connell, his chauffeur Simon, aunts, uncles, cousins and many great friends. Andrew will also have extended family soon by choosing to participate in the New Jersey Sharing Network. He was both an organ and tissue donor giving others the gift of life. Andrew was a member of IBEW Local 3, Elevator Division, New York. He was a great athlete and played lacrosse, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, baseball and golf. Cheryl Dembrun Keller passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 10, 2018, with her loving children at her side at the age of 70. Selena Lynn Eskew
Selena Lynn Eskew, a resident of New Orleans and a native of Chalmette, LA, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the age of 45. She is survived by her loving mother, Sonya Gilligan Meyers (Wilson). She was the beloved sister of Leander J. Regnier (Christie), Keith E. Regnier, and Kristie G. Bergeron (Ron). Selena was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Eskew, Jr., and her grandparents, George and Ella Gilligan and Jerome and Josephine Eskew. She also leaves behind many other dear relatives and friends. She was much loved, and will be missed by all who knew her. Selena was laid to rest with her father and grandparents during a private graveside service in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. Bernardine Jenning Lorino passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2018 with her family at her side at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Michael R. Lorino Sr. and devoted companion of Lloyd Held for 17 years. Loving mother Michael Lorino Jr. (Peggy), Wayne Lorino and Anthony Lorino (Leslie). Proud grandmother of Michelle Boudreaux (EJ), Jamie Lorino and Ashley Lorino. Step grandmother of Renee Caceres (Alberto). Great grandmother of Blaike Lorino, Ethan Martello, Caleb Lorino, Mackenzie Bratton, Quinn Boudreaux and Peyton Lopez. Step great grandmother of Alex Caceres and Alexa Caceres. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; George Jenning and Beatrice Di Franco Jenning; Daughter-in-law Donna M. Lorino; brother George Jenning; sister Viola Thomas; two grandsons who she loved dearly Michael R. Lorino III and Anthony J. Lorino Jr. Bernadine was born on August 7, 1931 in New Orleans, LA. She was a former resident of St. Bernard Parish and a current resident of Mandeville, LA. The family would like to extend special thanks to nurses and staff at Fidelis Assisted Living No. 2 and Passages Hospice for their unwavering kindness and compassion during Dene’s time at the home and in her last few days. Cynthia Mills
On Wednesday November 14, 2018, Cynthia Mills of Pearl River, LA, went peacefully to be with our Lord at the age of 61. She grew up in St. Bernard where she graduated from PGt Beauregard High School. Mrs. Cynthia served for many years as a branch manager for Pelican Homestead Banking and she loved to be outdoors where she enjoyed landscaping. She will be loved and missed by all when knew her. Cynthia is survived by her children; Tracie Acevedo (Josh), Fred Funck Jr. (Katy), and Michael Mills (Grace), her mother Ondalee McCarra, her brothers Larry McCarra (Terri) and Rickey McCarra, and her grandchildren; Bryleigh, Gabriel, Hailey, Jessica, Michael, Matthew, MacKenzie, and baby Acevedo on the way. She is also survived by her nieces Michelle Lightcap, Sabrina McCarra, Shelby McCarra, and her nephews Preston McCarra, C.J. Mc-Carra, Dylan Tittle, Justin McCarra, Shay McCarra, and Cassidy McCarra. She is preceded in death by her husband Michael Mills, her father Nevle McCarra, and her sister Tina Tittle. Family and friends attended the visitation and funeral service on Saturday November 17, 2018 in the chapel of D. T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Hwy. 41, Pearl River, LA 70452. Tinsley “Sam” Grey Sammons
Tinsley Grey Sammons left this earth on November 13, 2018 at the age of 82. He was born on May 1, 1936 in Robertstown, GA to Lee Hulme Sammons and George Sammons. He later joined the Coast Guard at age 17, serving on the Westwind Icebreaker in the Arctic Circle. After two tours with the Coast Guard, he joined the U. S. Air Force. He taught electronics at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS; and served with the Strategic Air Command in Texas. He picked up the nickname, Sam, in the service that stuck with him for 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Thriffiley Sammons; his daughters, Jacqueline Frasco (Jerry), Kristina Sammons (Jeff) and Freya Lilly and his son Marcus Sammons and stepson Victor deBouchel, Jr. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He traveled the country from Florida to California before settling in St. Bernard Parish, LA; where he opened his own auto repair shop. After Katrina, he and his wife moved to Gonzales, LA, where they adopted Honey, the yellow dog. She became his constant companion as he turned his backyard into a bird sanctuary. His last thoughts were of cleaning the birdhouses for the winter. In tribute to his love of animals and nature, his final resting place will be a Sweet Bay Magnolia tree planted on the pond’s edge in Florida.
