Rose Cobb Westberry was called to heaven while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the age of 82. Rose, or “Mimi,” was born in Wilkinson County, GA, and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, LA, until 2007, when she moved to Slidell, LA. Rose spent her final days surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the beloved daughter of the late John Cobb and Ruth Stubbs Cobb. Sister of Edith and the late Elizabeth. Mother of Cheryl Westberry, Terrell Westberry (Angel) and the late Gerald Westberry (Sally) and Darryl Westberry (Brenda). She was much more than a devoted grandmother to Alicia Harris (Bruce) and Ashley Stevens (Michael), raising and loving them as her children. She was the most loving and caring “Mimi” to Brennen, Alexa, Landen, Lillie, Lila, Megan, Melanie, John, Olivia, Landry, Kristina, Austin, Chad, Allyesia, Sarah and Jessica. Rose was the most thoughtful, selfless, and caring woman you’d ever meet and would give you the shirt off of her back. She was known as the Kool Kat Snoball Lady. Linda Kennedy Martin passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the age of 71. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth Alex Martin. It is with great sadness that the family of Albert Ernest Thomas, Jr. announces his passing, after a brief illness, on Monday, November 19, 2018, at the age of 66. He was a native of Arabi, LA and a resident of Chalmette, LA. Post-Katrina he was a resident of Marrero, LA. Albert will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna Chiasson Thomas, his children, Scott (Amanda) and Derek Thomas and his step-daughter Sydney Gordon. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Morgan and Gavin Thomas and his step-grandson Gavin Moore. He was preceded in death by his father Mr. Albert Thomas, Sr. and his mother Mrs. Isabell Adams Thomas. Albert is survived by his brother Davis Boos (Debbie) and his sister Evelyn Dean (Larry). He was preceded in death by his brother Kevin Thomas. He is survived by his nieces, Sherri Thomas Weathers, Monique Boos (Robert) and Jeanne Boos, his great-niece Maegan Alfonso, his great-nephew Jon Dawson and his two great-great-nieces, Addison Rose and Wesley Claire. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary Hill, his sisters-in-law Ashley (Sandy) and Monica, his brother-in-law Ted (Marcie) and his nieces Sarah and Marisela. He will also be missed by his sweet dog Rosie. Albert attended Chalmette High School and learned to be a machinist through a program at Delgado. He was a member of the US Army. He was a very proud ExxonMobil retiree from the Chalmette Refinery. His Shift Superintendent position was truly his dream job. Albert enjoyed Mardi Gras and never missed a costume opportunity. He always rang in the new year with the biggest fireworks display. His motorcycle, golf, music and cooking were amongst his favorite past-times. Jacqueline Purcell Ferris peacefully passed away in Madisonville on November 22, 2018, at the age of 87. She was a long time resident of Chalmette, LA, until Hurricane Katrina. Jacqueline liked to sew, crochet and do some gardening, but her passion was being on her computer. She was president of the St. Bernard Computer Club that she founded in the early 1980’s. Andrew was born in Baker, La. and raised in the town of Lions, LA, a small town that ran along the River Road where he was known as “A.O.”. Andrew lived in St. Bernard for over 50 years and moved to Covington, La. after Hurricane Katrina. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He was a charter member of the V.F.W. in Reserve, LA, and later belonged to the Hinton Causey V.F.W Post 7194 in Arabi, LA. Andrew was active in St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Louise de Marillac parishes and was a recipient of the Order of St. Louis medal. He also belonged to Fr. C. Hug Knights of Columbus of Arabi, St. Anselm’s St. Joseph Guild and AARP #5408. Henry “Gator” Waller passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, November 23, 2018 at the age of 68. He was the beloved husband of 45 years to Marguerite Schlesinger Waller. Loving father of Henry Joel Waller (Cynteia), Allison Maria McNeill (Sean), Shane Anthony Waller (Christine) and Garret Charles Waller. Son of the late Henry and Alice Hooks Waller. Brother of the late Henry Waller and James Waller. Proud grandfather of PV2 Henry Joel Waller Jr., Brock Harrison McNeill, Bronson Henry McNeill, Kylie Allison Waller and Ryan Thomas Waller. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many cousins, relatives and dear friends. Henry was born in New Orleans, LA and was a true “9th Warder” where he enjoyed a 28-year career driving taxis for United Cab. Marguerite was the love of his life and was often heard saying, “It’s her and I against the world.” They were close, fond and true “buddies” over the years. Henry loved to share his passion for sports not only with his family and friends, but it allowed him to enjoy coaching at NORD and for the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was a skilled softball player, adored Mickey Mantle, and his passion for Saints and LSU Football was surpassed only by the love for his grandchildren. Henry found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for others. He will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, his caring and loving spirit, his laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Louise Dauterive Fuller announces her passing. She passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the age of 87. She was born in New Orleans, LA, on July 27, 1931, to the late John and Elizabeth Dauterive. She was the beloved wife of the late Floyd P. Fuller and loving mother of Marsha Fuller Custer and the late Cathy Fuller Gagnon. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her daughter Marsha Fuller Custer and her son-in-law F. Michael Custer, her grandchildren, Mona Giacona, Marcie Custer and Michael Custer, her great-grandchildren, Blaine Modica, Mikayla Minton, Kaylee Custer, Matthew Minton and Skyy Custer. Alfred “Al” Nevelin Wilson, Jr.
Alfred “Al” Nevelin Wilson, Jr. passed away peacefully in the early afternoon on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the age of 64. He was born on April 30, 1954 in St. Bernard Parish (Da Parish), and has been a resident in McDonough, GA for the last year. Alfred was a retired Detective with the New Orleans Police Department in the Management Criminal Investigation Division. Alfred was also retired from Six Flags Theme park with the Loss Prevention Office. Alfred also served honorably for five years in the United States Army (1972-1977) as a 95B20 (Processing Specialist/Military Police) assigned to 39th MP Company (Guard), Jackson Barracks, New Orleans, LA. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Police Association of New Orleans. Alfred graduated high school from Chalmette, LA. Alfred is survived by his wife and soulmate, Cha Cha Estrada Wilson. He was a loving father to Charidie W. Menesses, Alfred N. Wilson III, Trevor M. Wilson, and Alexis N. Wilson. He was also a loving step father to Elaine Crisostomo, Michael Crisostomo, Sherry Mae Crisostomo, and Katrina Crisostomo. He was a loving grandfather to Kaysi L. Wilson and Kyle M. Wilson. He is survived in life by his brothers, Michael and Eric Wilson, his sisters, Theresa Amie, Sharon Williams, Lila Burton, and Tania Kenney. He was preceded in death in life by his father, Alfred N. Wilson Sr; mother, Unie L. Wilson, and sister Karen A. Wilson. Alfred was well known for his fun loving sense of humor, and even more well known for his infectious laughs. Virginia Mary “Ginger” Gros departed her earthly home on Wednesday, November 21, at the age of 56, to dwell in the house of the Lord along with her beloved father, Edward Gros, Sr. and her grandparents, Howard and Pauline Gros and Anthony and Lillian Talamo. Ginger lived the last several years fighting a brave fight against cancer and multiple sclerosis. As a person who loved to please others Ginger was an amazing cook, cake decorator, craft-maker, and floral designer. She would do anything to make others happy, including giving away her last dollar or the shirt off her back. She loved animals and was “Mommie” to Dewey and Duff, her wild beagles and “Gin” to Daisy, the spoiled chihuahua. We are sure she joined her other babies who crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Ginger will be greatly missed by her family, especially her mother, Carmela Talamo Gros and her sisters, Debra Gros Zimmer (Keith), Donna Gros Anderson (David), and a brother, Edward Gros, Jr. (Celeste). Ginger was especially devoted to her Godchild, Kellie C. Zimmer, and her nieces, Courtney L. Anderson and Sara B. Anderson along with a nephew, Edward M. Gros, III. James Raymond Ragas passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the age 86. Beloved husband of Beverly Nunez Ragas. Loving father of Michelle K. He was a United States Army Veteran and proudly served in the Korean War. He was a G.N.O.A.L. and Diamond Club Inductee and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates after high school. He was a member of the 1961 NBC National Champions Wichita, Kansas. James retired from Murphy Oil after many years of dedicated service. Billy Morris Gibson passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia at the age of 84. He was the loving husband of Carole Alexis Gibson. Devoted father of Rhonda Alexis, Russell Alexis (Judy), Reed Alexis (Evelyn), Renee Marino (Paul), and Ruth Bosarge (Tracy). Beloved grandfather of Jenna Gibson, Billy Ray Gibson, Jr., Stewart Alexis (Suzie), Christina Van Zant (Jacob), Paul Marino, and Michael Bosarge. Great-grandfather of Luka Gibson, Mae Alexis, Cammie Van Zant, and Kendall Van Zant. He also leaves behind his dear nephew, Allen Armond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Nancy Morris Gibson, his dear wife Ray Terminie and his cherished son, Billy Ray Gibson. Billy was born in Berry, AL, and moved to New Orleans at the age of 12. He graduated from Nicholls High School, and worked for Murphy Oil Refinery until his retirement. He was a resident of Chalmette before relocating to Harahan after Hurricane Katrina. Billy was much loved and will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. Bobby Guzman, of St. Bernard, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Slidell Memorial Hospital at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife Paula Hammond Guzman; three children: Eric Guzman (Lisa), Jeffrey Guzman (Courtney), Robert Guzman (Carol); ten grandchildren: Emily Guzman, Erica Guzman, Lia Guzman, Payton Guzman, Marla Guzman, Morgan Guzman, Eric Guzman Jr., Jessa Guzman, Dallas Guzman, Harley Guzman. Carlos F. Kattengell
Carlos F. Kattengell, also known as “Uncle,” passed away peacefully at St. Margaret’s at Mercy on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the age of 83. He was born in New Orleans, LA, on June 29, 1935. Uncle to Linda Templet (Robert) and Donald Kattengell (Dorothy). Great Nephews Jason Templet (Sarah), Justin Templet, Jared Kattengell (Megan), Mitchell Kattengell and Great-Great Nephew Walter Templet. Preceded in death by parents Anna Floegel Kattengell and Walter Frank Kattengell, Sr., brother Walter Frank Kattengell, Jr. and sister in law Ethel Messmer Kattengell, sisters Linda Ruth Kattengell and Janice Ann Kattengell. Mr. Kattengell resided in St. Bernard Parish from 1972 until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated his home and parish. He survived the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina for one week before being rescued and air lifted to Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, where he suffered and was treated for an aggressive bacterial infection in both legs. After a lengthy recovery and upon discharge, he relocated to Denham Springs until 2010 when he returned to New Orleans. Mr. Kattengell also served in the Louisiana National Guard and was a proud graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School. An avid fan of LSU and all sports, he could recite statistics like no other. Uncle was so very proud of his four great nephews and loved watching them grow up. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the family of St. Margaret’s at Mercy and St. Margaret’s Hospice caregivers and staff members for their years of care and support. Marie Besson Laurent, of Mandeville, LA; was welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born on April 8, 1930 in New Orleans, La to Edwin J. Besson Jr. and Claudia LeBlanc Besson. Marie is survived by her three daughters Linda (Freeman) Lee, Debra (Eddie) Peterson and Cynthia (Sean Henton) Dupree, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Marie also leaves behind 2 brothers Edwin (Beverly) Besson Jr. and Claude (Coleen) Besson and 2 sisters, Jackie (Nick) Tusa and Martha (Ray) Carriere. Marie is preceded in death by her husband Leo Laurent, 1 sister Olga Lushing, 1 brother Francis Besson and parents. During the early years of life Marie resided in New Orleans, later moving to Chalmette in the 1950’s where she settled and built a beautiful family with husband Leo and her three children Linda, Debbie and Cindy. Marie was an admirable example of what it was to be a loving and devoted wife and mother always displaying unconditional love and unfailing devotion towards them. Marie had a passion and love for all people and was often called upon to care for others which she did without question. Born with the natural mothering instinct she often assumed the motherly role towards her siblings as well. Marie not only blessed everyone with the beautiful heart she possessed but also warmed the hearts of others through their bellies achieving this with her pristine cooking abilities. She thoroughly enjoyed sharing her cooking talents with everyone and took great pleasure in having family gatherings for the holidays. Spending quality time with friends, family, her children and grandchildren brought her great joy. Included in the many talents Marie possessed was a beautiful singing voice which she regularly used in singing praises to our Lord. She not only had a love for our Lord and human life but also possessed a great love for animals as well. Some other things that brought her great joy were gardening, traveling and marveling at Gods beautiful creations. Aside from family life, Marie was also very successful in her career life as well. She was a career banker where her determination and hard worked proved to be impeccable moving her through the ranks from bank teller to loan officer and eventually branch manager until retirement. Marie later moved to Mandeville in 2005 where she lived out the rest of her days here on earth. Marie will be forever remembered and cherished in our hearts and the hearts of many for the countless amazing qualities she possessed and displayed throughout her life. Linda Kennedy Martin passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the age of 71. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth Alex Martin. Loving mother of Dina Martin Kreps (Richard Sr.) and Tammy Martin Bell (Mitchell). Grandmother of Kristi Bell (Dwayne), Keri Bell Melerine (David), Richard Kreps Jr. (Catherine) and Kaci Bell. Great-grandmother of Cullen Cangelosi, Kelsi Cangelosi, Kenzi Cangelosi, Lia Melerine, Paisley Melerine and Harper Melerine. She was preceded in death by her dear parents Arthur Leo Kennedy Sr. and Jeannette Stutson Kennedy, and by her brother, Arthur Leo Kennedy Jr. Linda also leaves behind many other dear relatives and great friends. She was much loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Thomas Anthony McConnell, III
Thomas Anthony McConnell, III, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the age of 82. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his life. He was the beloved husband and childhood sweetheart of 62 years to Jacqueline Blanchard McConnell. Loving father of Timothy McConnell (Becky), Todd McConnell Sr. (Jerilyn), Troy McConnell (Gina) and the late Thomas McConnell IV. Son of the late Sybil Kennedy and Forest Kennedy. Proud grandfather of Thomas J. McConnell (Paola), Mindy McConnell, Todd McConnell Jr. (Julie), Patrick McConnell and Matthew McConnell. Great grandfather of Grayson Manning, Henry McConnell, Mia McConnell and Eliza McConnell. Brother of Forest Kennedy (Delise); Gerry Rhodes (the late Earl) and the late Edrie Lefont (Kilben). He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Thomas was born in New Orleans, LA, and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Pearl River, LA following hurricane Katrina. He proudly served his country as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy for 4 years in the Pacific Fleet. He enjoyed 14 years successfully running the St. Bernard Bus Line Café and Tommy’s Lounge. He continued to serve his community as a detective with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office for 11 years. Thomas remained active throughout his life, remaining an active member of Cross Gates Athletes Club for over 30 years, and devoting much of his time to his friends and family. He enjoyed boating, motorcycles, bicycles, traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada, boxing, football, many cruises, and sometimes just enjoying a walk around the neighborhood. His love for family gatherings was surpassed only by the love for his grandchildren. He found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for others. He will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family, his laughter and spoiling the grandchildren. He was our pillar of courage and strength, and a wonderful example of what it means to care for others. He will be deeply missed by us all. Shirley Neubauer Mills passed away peacefully on November 28, 2018 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Harry J. Mills for 68 years. Loving mother of the late James Mills (Dona), Roland Mills (Nancy), the late Michael Mills (Cindy), the late Harry Mills, Jr., Cathy Guillot (Eno), and Jeffery Mills (Sherri). Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry A Neubaeur, she is also survived by her sister Marian (Dr. Dewitt) Turner as well as 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Shirley was an avid gardener and Saints fan who loved to cook but her love of family surpassed all else. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Vera Alexandra Nuschler
Vera Alexandra Nuschler passed away Sunday December 2, 2018 at the age of 94. She was a native of Philadelphia, PA; resident of Chalmette and of Baton Rouge, LA. Vera received a B.S. at Tulane and a Master’s at Loyola University, both in New Orleans. She retired as a teacher after 50 years in the St Bernard Parish School system. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Nuschler Vazquez, and a son, Gary Leigh Nuschler; also a sister Nadja Rogachenko Martino; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Arthur Nuschler and son Mark Edwin Nuschler; parents, Alexander Rogachenko and Catherine Stojko Rogachenko. A Visitation and services were held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd. A visitation continued on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Funeral Home, where a private interment followed.
