89. A native of New Orleans, survivor of Katrina in St. Bernard Parish, former resident of Slaughter, LA, and most recently resided in Alexandria, LA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, James Charles Lewis, her parents, Mickey Reilly and Hilda Breaux Reilly, and her brother, Francis L. “Jake” Reilly. Friends and family attended the services at Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA, on Monday, February 4, 2019. Interment at St. Patrick No. 3 cemetery. Condolences may be expressed.

Beverly Ann Turner Nunez, born November 28, 1945 passed away on February 1, 2019 at the age of 73. She is preceded in death by her son, Troy Michael Nunez, and sister Lana Turner. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Nunez Garscadden, her mother, Marion Lamarque, her sisters, Marlene Graffeo, Jean Lusco, and Joan Bowden, her granddaughter Alison Garscadden, her beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, and her precious cat, Davey. Beverly lived in Chalmette, LA; Beaufort, SC; Jacksonville, NC; and Slidell, LA. She enjoyed watching movies, spending time with her mother and sisters, and listening to her granddaughter play cello. Bertha Pitcher entered into eternal rest peacefully, with her family by her side on Monday, January 28, 2019, at the age of 70. She was married to the love of her life and soulmate, the late Ruben “Sparks” Pitcher. Bertha was loving mother to Roxana “Roxie” Moore and the proud mother-in-law of Chad Moore. She was the cherished grandmother “BeBe” of Caden Moore, Caine Moore, and Gabrielle Moore, and late Hope Moore. She leaves behind her two fur babies, Chico and Bree, and a host of grand-fur babies. Bertha was the daughter of the late Paul and Odile Herbert, sister of Paul Herbert and Ronnie Herbert, and cousin of Judy Glancey (Johnny). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and great friends, especially Dianne Thames and Beth Stiehl. Mrs. Pitcher was a retired administrative assistant/secretary. She loved to travel, walk, dance, socialize with friends, and be around her fur babies. She spent many vacations with her daughter and grandkids, enjoying life. She was a native of New Orleans, LA, a resident of St. Bernard Parish since 1973, and a resident of Destrehan, LA for the last 13 years. She was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, LA for the last 13 years. Bertha will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her; she was always smiling, very kind, loving, and happy to help anyone. Shirley Gabriel Frught entered into eternal rest on February 7, 2019 at the age of 87. She was born in September 1931 in New Orleans, LA, to Louis Sr. and Francis Kiefer Gabriel. She was a wife and loving mother. She is preceded in death by her husband William J. Frught Sr., her parents, her sister Elydia Gabriel Frught Grunewald. She is survived by her four sons, William Jr. (Karen), Louis (Mike) (Kathy), Donald Sr. (Connie) and Stephen (Cheryl) one brother Louis Jr., nine grandchildren, Jeffery, William III, Kelly, Jessica, Chris, Donald, Erin, Jennifer, and Ryan, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Shirley found pleasure in the details of everyday life and caring deeply for others. She will always be remembered for her loyalty and dedication to her family, her loving spirit, her laughter and spoiling the grandchildren. Mary Ethel Arnold Gardner passed away in her home in Slidell on January 30, 2019 at age

78. She was the beloved wife of the late Huey Lee Gardner, Sr., with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ann Hollis (Russell) and son Huey Lee Gardner, Jr. (Mary); five grandchildren, Crystal Hollis, Charles Hollis, Sean Hollis, Matthew Gardner and Andrew Gardner; one great-grandchild, Katherine Rose Hite; and her brother, David Lynn Arnold. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie Stafford Arnold and Charles David Arnold, Jr., and her brothers, Charles E. Arnold and Henry S. Arnold. Mary was born at home in New Orleans on April 24, 1940 and resided in St. Bernard Parish from 1946 – 2005. She was a proud graduate of the Charity Hospital School of Nursing and she worked as a Registered Nurse for nearly 30 years at several hospitals, most notably Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Alvin “Boogie” Hebert, Sr.

Alvin “Boogie” Hebert, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the age of 74. He was married to the late Elizabeth “Kay” Hebert, for 41 years. Loving father of Madeline St. Angelo, and the late Alvin Hebert, Jr. Grandfather of Nathaniel Hebert and Meghan St. Angelo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Agnes Hebert, and by his brother, Calvin Hebert. He also leaves behind many other relatives and dear friends. Boogie was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish, and was a driver for Arabi Cab from 1967 to 2010. He was one of the truly lucky people in life, who loved what he did every day, and took great joy in meeting new people and forming lasting friendships over his 43 year career. In his later years, Boogie loved fishing, bowling and taking as many trips to the casino as he could. He was loved by all who knew him, and will be dearly missed. Elizabeth Roberts Hickey passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the age of 94. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Walter Hickey for 67 years. Loving mother of Elizabeth H. Dufour (David), Raymond E. Hickey (Vickie), David T. Hickey (Lisa), Eileen H. Gulotta (Grant), Bryan J. Hickey and the late Darryl M. Hickey. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Mark Taranto, Joseph Gulotta (Lane), Jennifer Cropper (Justin), Ryan Gordon (Martin), Scott Hickey, Jordan Follis (Matthew), Kristina Hickey, Emily Gulotta (Brent Polizzi), and four great-grandchildren: Harrison, Elizabeth, Margaret and Benjamin Gulotta. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Elba Hickey (the late Eugene Hickey). Elizabeth was born on April 23, 1924 and spent the first eighteen years of her life at St. Elizabeth’s under the love and guidance of the Daughters of Charity. She graduated from St. Stephens High School, and Soule Business College. She was a resident of St. Bernard Parish before relocating to St. Tammany Parish after hurricane Katrina. Elizabeth was a homemaker whose passions were cooking and caring for her family and friends. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the Hospice doctors, nurses, and aides of St. Tammany Parish Hospital for the excellent care they provided Elizabeth over the duration of her illness. The family also greatly appreciates the loving care provided by her caregivers: Joyce Dillon, JoAnn Smith, Christina Causey, Kim Callahan, and Melissa Jones. Jessie Mae Mancuso O’Dell passed away peacefully in the evening of Friday, February 8, 2019 at the age of 89. Jessie was born in New Orleans on June 10, 1929, to the late Philip Mancuso and the late Amelia Elizabeth Ghergich. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Harold O’Dell; brother Dominick Mancuso; children Philip Harold O’Dell, Bessie Marie O’Dell Russo, and Charles Edward O’Dell; grandsons Edward Harold Bachemin and John David Russo; and great-great-granddaughter Ocean Vera Rea Russo. She is survived by daughter Bonnie Mae O’Dell Aguilar and husband Ruben and daughter Charlene Amelia O’Dell Bachemin and husband Paul. She was known as Jessie Mae and Maw Maw Jessie to her grandchildren Nicky, Cheryl, Scarlet, Dean, Pauli, CO, Heather, John, Bernadette, Jade, Tony, Emely; and great-grandchildren Amanda, Alexis, Nicholas, Zachary, Tony, Shelby, Rex, Dominick, Maggie, Cayce, Hannah, Collin, Karolina, John, William, Seth, Macy, Bella, Kayne, Carly, Nola, Kennedy, Prudence, Sebastian, Carleigh; and great-greatgrandchildren Riley, Kaden, and Charlie. Jessie was a resident of St. Bernard Parish where she and Charlie raised their children. She owned and operated Bo Peep Daycare in Chalmette. Upon retirement, Jessie and Charlie resided in Hancock County. It was at their house on the Jordan River where you would expect a large family gathering with Jessie’s biggest Magnalite pot filled with meatballs and red gravy. In addition, you could indulge in her homemade biscuits and salmon gravy. She later moved to St. Tammany Parish. She was a resident of Summerfield Senior Living of Slidell where she valued and celebrated many wonderful friendships. The O’Dell family would like to thank everyone at Covenant Home Health and Sanctuary at Passages Hospice for providing such compassionate care for Jessie. Joliessaint “Ted” Pourciau

Joliessaint “Ted” Pourciau went to his heavenly home surrounded by his daughters on Friday, February 8, 2019, at the “youthful” age of 88. He was born in Lakeland, LA, on April 17, 1930 and resided there until he was drafted by the U.S. Army for The Korean Conflict in 1951 - 1953. Upon returning after the war, Ted traveled to Chalmette, Louisiana in hopes of obtaining a job at Kaiser Aluminum Corporation, where he worked & retired in 1981 after 33 years of employment. This trip and employment is what brought Dad and Mom together as they met in New Orleans. He never returned to New Roads to live and took residence in St. Bernard Parish in 1962 through February 8, 2019 with the exception of Hurricane Katrina. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Ted was known for his quiet disposition and sweet natured spirit. He was devoted to his family and friends. His early hobbies were hunting for rabbits & squirrels, and he also tried his hand at trawling. He also loved watching sporting events like football, basketball and baseball games, as well as doing his own yard work. Later in his life, his hobbies consisted of playing the lotto and buying scratch offs (which was lucky for him). He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel of 41 years, his best friend & sonin-law Randy Boleware, his parents, Faustin and Anita Pourciau, Sisters- Juanita Rozarto, Hilda Causey, Una Hunt. Brothers - Ivy, Tefose, Wallace Sr., Norman Sr., Harry, and George. He is survived by his devoted & loving daughters - Brenda Boleware and Pat Pourciau, his adoring grandsons - Brad and Robert Boleware, (Heather) and his two precious Great grandchildren, Ella and Beau Boleware, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his sister, Beatrice Rost. We would like to thank Dr. Bragg, Drs. Smith, Paige, and Ramirez for caring for our father during his battle with lung cancer. Thanks also to the many health care providers on his team. A special thank you goes out to Compassus Hospice Staff for helping us with the care of our father during his final days. Calvin Peter Riche

Calvin Peter Riche died on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at his home in Mandeville, LA, following a brief illness at the age of

92. A native of New Orleans and resident of St. Bernard Parish for 20 years and of Braithwaite (Plaquemines Parish) for 20 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Desire Bernard Riche, Jr. and Olivia Roques Riche, as well as brothers, Cedric, Roy, Lloyd, and Claude. Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marion Gumina Riche and his daughter, Diane M. Riche, as well as his brother, Elwood, and sister, Eloise Riche Vidal. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. Mr. Riche attended St. Cecilia Catholic School and was a graduate of Holy Cross High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving on the USS Cullman in the Pacific Theater and returned to active duty during the Korean War, stationed in Hawaii. Mr. Riche could recount in great detail stories from his service years, of which he was extremely proud. A member of the National WWII Museum, he celebrated his 90th birthday at a surprise party with family and friends at the Stage Door Canteen. During his career, he built a very successful contracting business, constructing hundreds of homes in the Metropolitan area. With his beloved wife Marion, and good friend and business partner, Jim Brown, he established The Locker, women’s retail clothing stores, in Chalmette, Slidell, and Covington. During his lifetime Mr. Riche was a self-less, giving man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to both family and strangers in need. His efforts following Hurricane Betsy to assist flood victims and rebuild homes in St. Bernard were never forgotten. Adam Roman Serigne

Adam Roman Serigne passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the age of 93. He was the loving brother of Virginia Steele (Henry, Jr.), Irene Melerine (Clarence), Gloria Stephenson (Jessie), O’Neil Serigne (Barbara), and the late Joseph Serigne (Ida) and Lionel Serigne (Joan). He was preceded in death by his parents, Louisa Morales Serigne and Joseph J. Serigne. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Adam was a native of St. Bernard Parish, and was born and raised on Delacroix Island. He was a commercial fisherman and was the proud founder of Serigne Boat Launch. Even after his retirement, he could frequently be found on the water, due to his love of fishing. He was much loved and will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere “thank you” to Interim Hospice, the staff of St. Bernard Parish Hospital, and to his sitters, Stacie, Brielle, Erica, Mary and Destiny, for their unwavering dedication and support during Adam’s last days. Robert James Shea, Jr.

Robert James Shea, Jr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the age of 73. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his life. He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Catherine L. Shea. Loving father of Kevin Patrick Shea and Janet Shea Totora (Steven). Son of the late Robert James Shea, Sr., and Mary Esther Johnson Shea. Robert was born in New Orleans and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, currently residing in Villa Rica, GA since hurricane Katrina. During his time in Chalmette, he enjoyed a long career with Albach Co Inc. and after moving to Villa Rica, enjoyed work as an estimator at FabArc Steel Mill in Oxford Alabama. He proudly served his country as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam. He later received an associate degree from Delgado in Drafting before continuing to Tulane for two years. Outside of work, Robert remained active with his family and friends. He was known for many years as “Coach Bob” to the students he taught at Imperial Lanes in Chalmette before hurricane Katrina. He loved collecting coins, reading books about the Civil War and World War II, watching famous war movies and even participated in several Civil War re-enactments. Most of all, Robert had a great love for New Orleans and was always proud to call himself a New Orleans son. He celebrated so much that New Orleans has to offer, from Mardi Gras to seafood to sunsets over Lake Pontchartrain, and having a cold Old Fashioned to wash down the good times with his friends and family. He was a wonderful example of what it means to care for others and will be deeply missed by us all. Relatives and friends attended a visitation held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. On Sunday, February 3, 2019, the world lost an amazing man with a beautiful soul, infectious smile and contagious laugh. Albert Jacob Stechmann, III, entered heaven after a tragic accident while living in Hawaii at the age of 38. Jacob loved his family and friends dearly. He adored his mother, Cathy, and would move heaven and Earth for her. He cherished his Godchild, Amelia, and always looked forward to his yearly trips with her. He had a tremendous love for life and lived it big. He was a kind, gentle person and a devoted, generous friend. Jacob met everyone with a smile and enjoyed making others laugh. As a lifelong Who Dat, he loved all things New Orleans, especially Mardi Gras. He was passionate about Jujitsu, music, craft beer and his high school and college alma maters, Holy Cross and Louisiana Tech. Even though Jacob moved out of Arabi, he kept his “Parish Pride.” One friend described Jacob best, “He was the big fancy fireworks and all of us are just the bottle rockets.” Jacob was the loving son of Cathy Matherne Stechmann and Albert Jacob Stechmann, Jr. Beloved brother of Jessica Faust, and Paul and Rebecca Stechmann. Brother-in-law of Ryan Faust. Cherished paran of Amelia Stechmann and uncle of Darion Dewhirst. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Filbert and Joyce Matherne, Albert Stechmann, Sr. and Gloria Stechmann Sturzl. He is fondly remembered by many uncles, aunts and cousins, as well as hundreds of friends across the country. James was born in New Orleans, LA on June 17, 1943 to the late James Louis Alphonse and Josephine Wimber Alphonse. He was the beloved husband of 54 years of Sheryl Riess Alphonse. Loving father of Kerry Stander (Darren), Sherry Copeland, Jimmy Alphonse (Lisa), Jay Alphonse, ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Brother of Jackie Robinson, Jill Reeves and the late Jennifer Alphonse and Judy Alphonse. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives, family and friends.

Patricia Berthelot Brinks passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 68. A native of New Orleans, Patricia was a resident of Mandeville for the past 31 years. She loved her 40-year career as an educator and treasured the students she taught. She spent the last 22 years as a Special Education teacher at Mandeville Elementary and had no intentions of retiring. She leaves behind her daughter, Emily Purvis (Shane) of Mandeville; her sister, Gwendolyn Berthelot, her brothers, Barry Berthelot (Becky) and John Berthelot, and her nephews, all of Lafayette. She also leaves behind her cherished friends and colleagues, who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Brinks, and her parents, Evelyn (Ross) Berthelot and Francis “FX” Berthelot of Chalmette. A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Pontchartrain Yacht Club, 140 Jackson Avenue in Mandeville. Rosario “Roy” Calabresi, Sr.

Rosario “Roy” Calabresi, Sr. passed away surrounded by family on the morning of February 17, 2019 at the age of 94. Born and raised in New Orleans, he later became a resident of Arabi in St. Bernard Parish. As the son of the late Angelo T. and Caterina “Katie” Musso Calabresi, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara Knight Calabresi; his son Frank Calabresi; his siblings Jeanette Calabresi, Nadine Carmouche and Salvadore Calabresi. He is survived by his sister Antonina “Nina” Robison and brother Anthony “Tony” Calabresi; his daughter Catherine (Dudley) Morlier; his son Roy (Jeannie) Calabresi Jr.; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. During WWII, he enlisted in the US Army when he was only seventeen years old. He served as a B-26 Marauder airman and later as a pilot in the 391st Bomb Group of the 9th Army Air Corps. After completing missions in the invasion of Sicily, his unit was transferred to England where they participated in Operation Overlord during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Their unit was then re-stationed in France under the command of Gen. George Patton of the US 3rd Army. There his unit participated in many engagements including the Battle of St. Lo, the Battle of Bresque, and the Battle of the Bulge. His unit was awarded the Presidential Meritorious Service Unit Citation Medal for their efforts to resupply the Americans who were trapped behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge. After WWII ended, he remained a member of the Louisiana National Guard and served with the 935th Field Artillery Battalion of the 39th Infantry Division until 1950. In his youth, Roy Calabresi, Sr. was an avid boxer and boxed in several local clubs in New Orleans and later in the US Army. He moved to St Bernard Parish after WWII and, for a time, served as a policeman with the St. Bernard Parish Police Department. He was an active member of the Freemasons Lodge #468 and the Jerusalem Shriners organizations. Roy was a brick mason, skilled carpenter and boat builder. After he retired, he had painstakingly built several Lafitte Skiffs by hand. He was also an enthusiastic folk-artist painter, gardener and amateur Jazz musician who loved to play the guitar, banjo, piano, trumpet, drums and even the accordion. In his later years, he was active with the St. Bernard Council on Aging and the VFW. He truly embodied the best of the “Greatest Generation”. We will always carry his memory in our hearts. A visitation was held for Roy at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, on Thursday, February 21, 2019 followed by a funeral mass. He was laid to rest, with military honors, in Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Dr. in Slidell. Barbara Ann Jones of Pensacola, FL; passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the age of 82. Barbara was born January 16, 1937 in New Orleans, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Violet Nunez, a brother Curtis Nunez, and her son Cecil Mize. She is survived by her daughter Dorothy Wood of Pensacola, FL; her sister Florita Heberling; sister Beverly Rages; grandchildren Jeremy Brown and Brandon Brown; great-grandchildren Jasmine, Julian, Jayla, and Jonah. A memorial service to honor her life will be held in Chalmette, LA at a later date.

Phillip Edgar Lee, Jr. passed away on February 6, 2019 at the age of 53. He was a native of Chalmette and Meraux, LA, and a resident of Abita Springs, LA since 2005. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Laurentine Blanche Marti Lee. Son of Phillip E. Lee Sr. and Maria Scaffidi Lee. Brother of Donnell Lee Jenkins (Randy) and Janet Lee Vega (Ramiro). Brother-in-law of Ronald Marti (Lavina) and Russell Marti (Sandra). Also survived by five nieces, four nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph A. Scaffidi & Lucille Cusumano Scaffidi and Ralph E. Lee & Josephine O’Neill Lee. Also preceded in death by his wife’s parents Robert Marti & Leah LeBlanc Marti. Phillip was a graduate of Chalmette High School and has been employed by the Courtyard Marriot in New Orleans, LA since 2002 as a Cluster Director of Engineering. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends and all of those whose lives he touched. Special thanks to the management and staff, especially Bill Thomas and Keith Schmitt of the Courtyard Marriot for their unwavering support during this horrific tragedy. Also thanks to our loved ones, friends and extended family (you know who you are) for the overwhelming outpouring of love. Emma Rojas Prevost passed away peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the age of 94. She was the cherished wife of the late Emile Prevost. Daughter of the late Marcel and Juanna Espinol Rojas. Sister of the late Elvia Beard and Laura Shelley. She is survived and fondly remembered by her niece, nephew, dear friends and especially Michele Geauthreaux and Catherine Pichon. Emma was born in Danli, Honduras, and was a longtime resident of Arabi, LA, where she was a respected member of the St. Bernard Parish Professional Women’s Group for many years. She found pleasure in the details of everyday life and will be deeply missed by her family and by all those whose lives she touched. Christopher James Reynolds, Sr. passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019, due to complications from Diabetes at the age of 44. Loving husband of 22 years to Celeste Kinler Reynolds. Beloved son of Lena Caronia Reynolds and the late James “Guy” Reynolds. Loving father of Christopher “Topher” Reynolds, Jr., and step-father of Shawn Ray (Natalie) and Nicholas Ray. Grandfather of Quinn, Rosemary and Milo. Brother of Roxanne Schmidt (Joel) and Lorrie Toups. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear family, relatives and friends. Christopher was a life-long resident of Chalmette, Louisiana. He was a gun enthusiast, and loved football; especially Alabama Crimson Tide... Roll Tide! He was much loved, and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
